Fuse box terminal removal tool

Finally got round to having another go at fitting cruise to my daughter's 2005 Beetle.

Almost done, but I'm stuck on removing a terminal from fuse #5 in the fuse box so I can insert the one from the new loom.
The instructions say to use special tool VAS1978/4 (which I don't have) and release it from the rear of the fuse box. Any alternatives? Is it possible to use a couple of jewelers screwdrivers or similar?
Appears to be two small lock tabs on the new loom if that means anything, and #5 is one of the small format blade fuses (not sure if they have a special name or not).

Work out where in the fuse box the little tabs are and slide a thin sliver of metal up each one and pull back on the fuse

A very small screwdriver may do it also as long as you slide it past the tab it should flatten it enough to remove it.

You will of course have to do both at once

Thanks Hillbilly. Gave that a crack but no luck. Looking at it a bit more closely I reckon the metal strips would have to be just the right thickness to work.
A few metal strips of different thicknesses, a cheap jewelers screwdriver, and a half full swear jar later I declared it officially butchered and got out the soldering iron and heatshrink.

I forgot to say, as I thought it may be obvious from looking at the new one that you have to slide the shim down from the front of the plug as the tab stops it from going back . Have got a few Toyota ones out and they are very small and hard to do

Yeah - was definitely sliding them in from the front, but just couldn't get it to release.
It was one of the mini fuses.
