    T5 Problems

    Hi All,
Have a T5 2.5 T/Diesel which has been in an independant workshop for a coupe of weeks now. It was running a bit rough and we took it in to our normal mechanic to look at.

He has come back to us and says that it is running on 4 Cylinders and the 5th is "firing" into manifold??

He actually did some work previously on this vehicle when a sump plate (Oil Baffle) shattered and the crank shaft sensor had been damaged. The metal fragments (from the baffle) had also caused some scoring to lower skirt on piston but no further damage was evident. The engine did sound a little louder after return and there does appear to have been intermittent "rough running" issues although the driver didn't report them untill this became an issue.

It now appears to be the inlet valve that is an issue or perhaps the timing causing a delay with the injector and subsequent firing partially on exhaust.

Has anyone had this issue before. I am not mechanic bashing here as I trust this guy 100% and have known him for many years but any information I can get can only help.
    Regards
    Nigel

    Welcome to the forum 78gold!

Does the van have a service history?
    Production date?
    How many km?
Who serviced it and how many times?
What oil was used in the engine?
Was it in accident and was it repaired?

anything else happened in the past to that T5, you can think of?

Injector, valve train wear? could be many things.

It's hard to be spot on with diagnosing over the internet, UOA (used oil analysis) could give more clues, but I suggest you take it to someone who knows what he is doing. You could try Camden GTI, get in touch with Golf Loon in the forum (contact is below)
    VW AUDI SEAT SKODA
All Mechanical Work, Parts and Imports
    02 4627 3072 or 0423 051737 Camden GTI

and let us know what was the problem.

Symptoms sound similar to the excessively worn cams/lifter problems early R5 motors were prone to. Possibly the previous issues have led to a blockage in the oil supply to the cams ?
