T5 with DSG and multi function steering wheel question

Well I've now ordered a DSG MF Steering wheel as well. Having some issues with the seller (eBay) in Portugal as he thinks I did not pay enough for it to cover shipping to Oz, had to get up at 3am this morning to place the winning bid ....... less than $400 shipped, may pay him a few $ more to cover his shipping .... as it is exactly what I want....

Thanks, pity he has no VW DSG wheels at the moment.

And yes that DSG wheel looks good, no GTI or R badges either, so totally OEM look afterwards (except for the square bottom). All MVs should have them from the factory (if it works )

Will also be keeping the old wheel as I'll retrofit again when the TSI MV arrives .....

So the new DSG Wheel was shipped in 2 bits last week, 1 being the wheel itself and 1 being the airbag.

Wheel arrived today and it is brand new and more importantly, it does indeed have the DSG paddles. Very impressed so far. Pics soon ....

Mine arrived today.....It is now fitted (easy job). It was plug'n'play.....no programming required. I am a happy chappy.

Did you have much trouble getting the airbag off? Any tips to share in doing this, as I'd like to get mine done this weekend (if its easy enough) otherwise Jmac can only slot me in on the 13th of August and the wait will kill me.

Airbag came off easily.
Here are some pics that might help.
It is recommended to disconnect your battery when doing this, but I didn't.

1. turn steering wheel 90 degrees. With the steering wheel adjustment, tilt the wheel all the way down and pull it out as far as it will go.
You will need a short screwdriver to lever the spring clips that hold the airbag onto the wheel.
Once one clip is undone, rotate the steering wheel 180 degrees, and do the same to the other clip.
Once this was done, I centered the steering wheel with the engine running (otherwise it was difficult to turn the steering wheel without the powere steering).
I then switched off the engine and removed the key, and let the van sit for half an hour (to make sure there was no power going anywhere (radio, dash etc.)





You will have to unplug the rectangular yellow plug from the steering wheel. To do this, you will see a white-ish part on the top of the plug. Slide this back towards yourself, and then he yellow plug will come out.
You will need one of these to get the steering wheel off:


Fitting is the reverse of what you just did.

What size is that Hex key? I can't find 1 ..... Jimmy had to postpone my fitting so I'm going to have a go provided I can find a toolset like that ....
