T5 Cruise Control Failure

Hi Vaughan,

If fuses are okay, could be the cruise control switch on the indicator stalk or a faulty wiring or contacts within the stalk.

Thanks, that seems to be the consensus across the many YouTube videos on the subject! The T4-5-6 steering stalks seem to generate a lot of concern for people.

That was all a bit too much for me! I can see the fuse you refer to in the video, but at that point he appears to be deep in the bowels of the dash and I am not up to pulling all that out on the off chance that it is that fuse causing the problem … I am going to have to hunt down a local expert to solve this (eventually) or just live without cruise control.

Its not that difficult that guy went way overboard with the whole instrument cluster out , I can only recall removing the lower dash panels beside the steering column and the connection point was right in front of that area .

Ah OK, I see that bit now … I have had the side of that part of the panel off to run cable for the HUD, so it might not be too hard to spot the in line fuse from the side. Repair Cruise Control project remains ongoing!

Fair enough , in my job I work with airbags a fair bit so I know the respect needed [ admits here that when I did the cruise I managed to stuff up the clock spring on the back of the steering hub } I was fascinated on how it worked and when I put it back on it was half a turn in the wrong direction so when I turned the steering wheel to the full lock in one direction it ripped the ribbon cable clean off the clock spring DOH ] yes dealers can be a pain I now use an independent company at Underwood as they are really good and honest with repairs and service .

Fella I bought my T5 from is a wire wizard in the automation industry...Still has t5s just rewired the stalk, wires were toast! rubbed through the poxy black sheath ...

Thanks, not sure I am up to that level of repair myself … but will keep it in mind when I finally get around to talking to an auto electrician about it. I have a feeling it must be in the control stalk or steering column wiring. All the fuses I can find seem to be OK.

In my 2007 T5 the cruise control was factory fitted and failed at about 150000K. Replacing the clutch switch (easy job and cheap part) fixed the problem.

Another thing to conside as it happens from time to time with my T5 2005 model a light in the instrument cluster comes on and the cruise wont work EPC . Mostly it goes away on its own after short time and the cruise works again , sometimes I wish the other three would go away by themselves but the van has /Engine Check light / ABS / Traction control on for around ten years now but again the van just wont die . LOL
