T4 TDi White Smoke While Cold

hey guys my T4 is blowing white smoke while cold, once warmed up seems ok,
i have searched and cant seem to find much or a start....

a friend has told me it could be a injector not spraying properly but not sure my self.

    any ideas much appreciated.

    cheers

More likely fouling deposits around piston rings, if it is only on starts up and goes away when warmed up. Try engine oil flush and decarbonize combustion area with some intake system cleaner.

Continious white smoke is dripping or damaged injector, low compression or incorrect injection timing.

i have just finished with one of those cleaner things you put in the petrol tank for diesel i did it twice as it was a big bottle i noticed i got almost 80-100 kms extra....

as for the oil flush thing i am using fully synthetic shell.....

any recommendation on what oil to use as now that i think of it may be the oil i am using, my mechanic said to use a thicker oil as he can hear a ticking noise of some sort...

i was a bit iffy about using thicker oil to reduce noise...it could harm something else..am i right.

    cheers
    guys.

The ticking noise could be the vacuum pump rod. While I have not experienced it, I understand it's a common problem. The test is to press the brake pedal to see if it goes away.

Understand how it works, troubleshoot logically BEFORE replacing parts.

Ok, using synthetic oil doesn't guarantee that you don't get deposits in the combustion chamber and around the piston rings.
That's why I suggested engine flush. I would use LiquiMoly Engine Detox (Supercheap Auto or Repco).

Intake system cleaner is different to injector cleaner. You can get product from Subaru dealer (they name it intake system cleaner) or Motortraders p/n R-16 induction system cleaner. Use it as per instruction - it is good product. Other product you could use is WYNNS - harder to get to (call to WYNNS distributor)

What Shell synthetic oil did you use? Viscosity? Helix? Rotella?
Using oil viscosity that was recommended for your engine by manufacturer should maintain the engine in good running order for long time (depends if the owner change the oil and filters as recommended). How many km's is on the engine? Was the maintenance done as per manufacturer recommendations? (it may be difficult to know if you're a second owner).

I would use Penrite HPRDiesel5 (5W-40) or if the engine use a lot of oil HPRDiesel15 (15W50) and change the oil every 5-7,500km if you drive short trips, city traffic (severe driving conditions).

Na mate fraid not. Grey is oil , white is fuel or vapour. Different things happen at different temps, if it is "grey" cold then you might have worn valve stem seal mate, Grey hot then you may have troublel ahead or if you changed your oil recently you may have too much in there!!. White when hot will most likely be a head gasketor cracked head, plumes of grey is fuel or bad injectors .

Just make sure that the oil has the right specs needed for your engine. I don't think that Shell Ultra 5W40 has the specs.
