Replacing the standard radio in a Kombi Beach with SatNav...

    Hi,

I was wondering if anyone here had replaced their standard radio in the Kombi Beach or other T5 variant with either a VW or OEM SatNav system? I have been doing some searching on the net and found a fair bit of info on vwnavi.com but the most popular model talked about there is a Kenwood DX7200 model that I cannot find any listing for in Australia. The DNX7320 from Kenwood has SatNav etc and is available here but I wondered what experiences people here had had with their vans?

    Any info would be great...

    Cheers

    Hi,

I went with an Alpine W202E and use a Garmin Nuvi 660 for GPS in my Beach.

I had a look at the integrated options and wasn't impressed on price/performance.

The Nuvi does not need the external GPS antenna to function. I've saved drilling a hole in my roof and now have a spare VW GPS antenna

There are some Brickyard forum members that have tried both the Kenwood and Pioneer options. Might be worth an ask on that forum?

    Cheers, MM

Have just had the Sat Nav system in the T5 replaced by VW, and also have a Garmin Nuvi 760 in the Golf. I have to say that the Nuvi is by far the better option. For what reason I don't know the factory fitted unit does not say street names, will not provide speed.
    Go the separate unit.

    Thanks for that.

Question to Multiplex Man, did the dash need any modification to fit the Alpine,
I may take your advice on the separate units as I have a nice 7" satnav standalone unit that has been living in my Xtrail.

    Cheers

The Alpine fits straight in but the viewing angle is unshaded. The actual install angle is around 20 degrees. I am going to pull mine out to see if I can mount it more parallel to the floor (0 degrees). I might need to modify the chassis frame.

I would strongly recommend buying the W202 from OS (or even the new W205) as you can save heaps! I was less than impressed with the local Alpine install and have redone 90% of it already.

Oh, and I have found the Alpine BT300 module does not work with many mobile phones. Save your money and buy a BlueAnt or Parrot.

    Cheers, MM

Pioneer have just released the AVIC-F900BT in Australia for a RRP of $1999.

Has full 3d nav plus integrated Parrot bluetooth and full AV source....

I went to a product launch last week and was impressed..!!
