    New T5 owner

    G'day.

Just pickup last week a new T5. 132kw, LWB manual. pretty much bone stock standard. Plan is to add all the bits I want at much less than $tealer cost.

Loving the van, this is my first after having a 4x4. I'm using it for hauling race bikes around and for camp/surf trips.

I have found tho that it's hard to find out info and places on the web for getting stuff done, the shops I've called for things like extra tie downs, flooring, carpeting etc are pretty vague.

Plans for the van are :
    - Upgrade the stock RDC210 with a RDC510 (already bought off ebay for $300)
    - black out the windows
    - Wood floor - already done, found a great non-slip dark wood laser cut wood floor with recessed ties downs and fitted already cheaper than other places wanted for a rubber mat!
    - bit of sound proofing
    - box out the wheel arches and bung some speakers in em.
    - board up the walls and carpet that up
    - build a fold up bed
    - Wife doesn't like the 17" steelies so some wheels eventually
    - get it lowered 40mm so it goes in my garage!
    - fit cargo barrier with a middle gap that I bought for $150

Some things I'd like to get done sooner, some will happen over time. the 132kw is such a nice thing to drive. kinda wish I'd got the drivers seat upgrade but nothing a good seat place can't fixup.

    Pete

Welcome to the forum mate and congratulation on your T5.
Could you please post the links to these places where you bought the wooden floor and other.
Hm, and for some reason the pictures of your van are not displaying on my device.

he has 1 LWB floor left I think. it seals around the edges with silicone sealant, he gives you the tube to do it too.

Ah-ha. I have to host the images elsewhere. Thought so. I will get around to sorting that out at some stage. Thanks

Welcome, and thanks for the info T5Pete.
Back in '07 my factory wooden floor cost $625 to which I then also added a local rubber mat for $275. If you don't mind saying how much was your floor, pm if you prefer.

I must admit the Motexion flooring looks very nice. A great option if you are starting with a bare van.

$550 fitted.. granted fitting involves removing tie downs and lifting it in the bolting it down..

my rcd 510 just turned up, I'll try and install it tomorrow. anyone installed one of these? hope the stock loom for the rcd210 is the same.

Yes, its very easy. See my thread on RCD510 and RNS510.

The tray on the top lifts off, pull gently upwards on the edge closest to the window and it all comes off. This will expose 2 hex screws. Undo these and the whole facia comes off. Remember to pull gently but steadily. Then undo the hex screws holding the radio in and lift it clear. Unplug the cables and then redo all in reverse. Takes about 10mins.

    Great, thanks for that.

Tinting is now done, however wifey won't drive the van until I put a window in the side. I've had various quotes ranging from 250 - 420 for a bonded window. Anyone have a good contact in Sydney (pref northern beaches) that is good value?

Looking into a 40mm drop too so it goes in my garage, anyone done this here? info seems vague. do the wheels align up ok after? does it wear any bushings quicker than normal or tie rod ends? is it too stiff for a nice ride through sydney potholes?
