HELP! Lost stuff down the dash :(

My clip on sunglasses jumped out of the little nook on the dash and have slipped down between the windscreen and the dash... it seems there is a small gap there

Anyone know how I can get in there?
but more importantly are the plastic sunnies likely to do any damage if I can't?

Ooh, that's gotta suck big time! I went to bunnings and bought a flexible shaft thing with little claws that grab stuff, and have found they work great for that sort of dilemma.

If that doesn't work, try a thin strip of flexible plastic, put it down the gap before the spot where your glasses went and try and lever them back up again. Caution is required in case you hit anything else down there, but you can usually feel any resistance.

    Hope this helps.

I don't think that it will cause any damage there.
If it is right in the corner, try removing dashboard side triangular bit (it just pulls off) between the door and dash. Maybe you can spot it inside there.

How about chewing gum on the end of a ruler?

Sticks like **** to a blanket...It might help?

Dont pull the dash out to get them back, I have had my dash out...twice! as well as the windscreen replaced. They will not get lost in the innards of the dash.

Try a thin metal ruler and slide it along till you feel them or get the flexible little robotic grab claw already mentioned and just pull them back out.

I took a torch out lastnight for a look see. Seems where the glass has the little black dots pattern round the edges I can make out the sunnies sitting in there in what appears to be a groove designed to catch small objects for no good reason. There also appears to be a lip I'm going to have to get past, but as has been mentioned it looks like they won't be going anywhere.

I'll have to see if I can't find some thin flexible material and some sticky substance and try that, here's hoping.

The only "damage" will be to your mind knowing they're lurking there, hidden and until you get them it will play on you over and over...Good Luck.

In the end this was invaluable advice. After removing the speaker grill I could get better access for my blu tack on a stick... until I realised I could actually fit a few fingers in there and touch it... then I knocked it down inside the dash

Then I peered in the gap suggested above and poked a little more and managed to get it down and out just next to the bonnet released

    The results:

(on the upside they were that scratchy before they fell down here )

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions!
