If you want comfortable, save your cash and get some decent suspension under it.

but it's still going to be a mk 1, no matter what suspension you stick under it.

Depends what about the car is uncomfortable; the suspension, the interior, the lack of AC... etc.
If it's the vinyl seats Mark you can always have the tan interior back if you want it.

You've put some original and interesting ideas into your MK1; would be a shame to sell it off and start again.
I'd work on making the MK1 comfortable, if I was you.

    Well that's what I'm doing!

    Cup holders: check.
    Fully functioning heater: check.
Removing that bloody MK1 smell: soon.

Then it'll be comfy (by my standards anyway).

    What about sound deadening ??
I found Mk2 is the best balance between comfort and classy look

The car has no stereo for road noise to drown out, so meh!
    I'm used to it anyway.

I've had MK1's and now I've got a MK2. There's some difference in comfort but it's still nowhere as good as my 1996 Polo.

If you are expecting a big difference you'll be disappointed.

    Buy a Mk3 instead.
AC thats not an afterthought, P/S, airbags, comfortabe, cheap and reliable.
Plus I see bargain ones everywhere.
Mk2s and 1s are getting pretty old now.
