Sparkplug/points gaps?

My car splutters a bit under load, so have adjusted the timing, points and spark plugs according to the service manual. I then realised that the figures given are for a 1.6 litre not the 1.8 litre injected motor that I have.
Would they be that different to make the car run worse and does anyone know the gap sizes?

according to bentley, plug gap = 0.7 mm +/- 0.1

same for 1.5 to 1.8 engines..
