I am pretty sure that the ignition and the black/red will be to the + side and the solid black to the - side of the coil based on your descriptions.

put a new battery on her and she fired up a treat old battery was getting a tad tired the new one spins her over sweet. took her for a spin round the block still put a smile on my dial.
