I don't have a pic (but will next time I check my oil) but mine looked like the paler oil on that paper, but then I'm less than 2000km in
I want to win cleanest engine, but from what you're saying, I may not like the prize... ::

I would love to get a camera down into the intake of your car to see how clean it is, the specific grade of oil that is meant for our vehicles is meant to aid in cleaning deposits away in the engine, which is why I highly recommend you DO NOT use anything other than VW approved 5W30 oils.
You are worring me What do you mean about the camera? To see the air intake?
What could be the problem down the line...?
I thought it was worse if the oil was black, also because I remember at least two forum users (probably from UK) that noticed a strong oil darkening just when their GTI started to eat more oil than before...

When new of course my oil was clear as water, then became like this till about 6.000Km. From 6.000 to 12.000 it remained almost the same, didn't noticed darkening.
I think the modern oil filters are able to do a good job even if used till the suggested oil change (30.000Km in Europe for GTI)

About VW approved oils, I would like to use this Bardhal 5W40 that is 502/505, but probably this Bardhal 5W30 it's even better being 504/507...

Been thinking about getting the fix even though mine doesnt seem to be having any oil issues..will be asking my dealer about it in short while as mine as just hit 8000km and i want to do an oil change and will see about the DSG software update as well. Seen somewhere a user saying that they told him the fix was something like 63 Euros plus labour at the dealer here in Europe(cant remember the country at the moment).

    Yes, LocoPolo, it's me
Here in Italy they asked me 63€+installation (1 hour) for the new pipe...

I wrote to VW Italy using my previous ticket opened from Volksburg, asking them if I could have the new pipe for free even if I don't have big oil issues... I already know the answer

Exactly, to see down to the valves, see how clean it is down there. To be honest, mine hasn't been black since I first dropped the oil. Now it generally stays the same. If that is the same oil as factory fill and you're not burning any, I wonder if it's getting everywhere it should be... Or I could be just over thinking it

Just last week i swapped my stock intercooler for an aftermaket unit on my Golf. The car has done 10,000km and has had a good quality 42DD baffled catch can on for the last 4,000km. Oil changed 3x times with 504/507 stuff. Subaru upper engine cleaner done at 8,000km (just before its most recent oil change).

The intercooler (and pipes) had a nice later of oil in them - visibly pooling in some spots.

I degreased and hosed out my stock cooler before packing it away in storage. Also cleaned and degreased all the pipework i could get too.

I was amazed at how much oil was present.

This mean for sure lower efficiency of the Intercooler...
I need to install as soon as possible the catcher.

My intention is to bring the outlet pipe from the catcher to a lower part of the car and let the blow-by go away. I don't want to introduce again this hot air into the intake: there are contraindications doing this...?

It's illegal as it will bypass one of the Euro IV emissions controls for a start. Don't know why you're worried about hot air, the intake air has to go through the turbo yet and will get super heated in there!

I know about emission, but I don't think that from that little pipe could pass more pollutions that from a lot of diesel trucks that travel our roads

Considering the high temps in the engine bay I also thought to insulate the filter box and air intakes (but I haven't found a good solution yet, considering heat inertia)...

I know that the turbo will super heat the air, but also few degrees make the differences: we are now in summer and believe me that there is a significant difference of performance compared to our winter (now about 30°C, during winter below 0°C): I know that this depend also on the efficency of the Intecooler, that considering the different temperatures (air-air) is able to better heat exchange, but...

BTW, here in Europe the GTI is Euro V

Well having been immune to oil consumption issues up to this point, my GTI showed a yellow oil level light for the first time a couple of days back at 6650kms. Took the vehicle to DVG in Myaree and they explained that VW had put out a fix 2 weeks ago for the oil consumption problem in the Polo GTI, which was to change out the crankcase oil breather, which they did. To their credit, the rattle in the behind the dash is now gone too.

Knowing very little about this specific part... I did some research. So my question is, and forgive me if this is naive, how does the fix to the oil breather actually prevent the oil burn? My understanding was the oil burn was cause by the 'blow-by'... so now I'm really confused.
