Thanks. Ok, well the evidence by way of the responses here strongly suggests the dealer has not been honest with me. I was giving them the benefit of the doubt up until now but it seems like there isnt even a supply problem of the units at the VW end. In other words the dealer is trying to blame VW which also explains why VW have never heard of the problem.
They have a day to get back to me. If it is not resolved as a result of them getting back to me then I will put the matter in writing to VW Australia.
I think it is a little ironic that on Monday this week I receive a personally signed letter from the dealership principal thanking me for my purchase and waxing lyrical about what an awesome VW dealer they are lol. Luckily, I have since found that I live literally 5 minutes walk from Camden GTI, so even now its looking likely this experience with the dealer is going to cost them any hope of paid servicing by them (and I intend to keep this car for at least 10 years if not longer, so that is a lot of lost revenue for them).
I have to say this is souring the experience as a first time VW owner. Dont get me wrong - the car itself is wonderful and it is the second best car I have ever driven (an auto diesel Golf being the best). I just love the quiet cabin, the comfort and the lazy 6 cylinder feel of that tiny little engine. Its like a big luxury car to me in a tiny package and the slick little 6 speed manual gearbox has the best gearchange action of any box I have ever used. But if the dealer is doing things like this right off the bat then I am worried about what may transpire if I actually need any warranty work (luckily nothing whatsoever has gone wrong with it yet).
MY13 - paired with MFD (main?) bluetooth. Can stream audio to head unit as well as phone calls etc.
Interestingly the dealer said to not bother with the touchscreen and to basically ignore it as all features were available through the MFD when i took delivery.
So that's what i have done and no issues so far.
Interestingly my 20 buck iphone ebay cable arrived and i can't see much more that you can do with this than you can do with BT streaming.
So it seems there is three ways (touchscreen BT, MFD BT and MDI cable) to get songs to the car.
Seems a bit redundant...

Back to the subject of this thread, you should have signed a contract to purchase a vehicle. This contract should have set out the full detail of what it is you were buying and any conditions you specified.
This is all you need to enforce the supply of the item. If you have not received the vehicle you signed a contract for, contact the dealer principal. If you get no response then approach your state fair trading office (or whatever it is called in your state), and/or the ACCC.
That is all true of course but it comes down to their word against mine. There is nothing whatsoever in the official paperwork stating that I am owed the adapter. When originally signing the contract, I was told by the salesman that I would get the adapter as the last thing along with the car keys. It was only at handover that I was told I wasn't getting it.
As mentioned, I did ask them to make an annotation on the contract to state they owed me the adapter, but having checked all the paperwork, there is no mention whatsoever of the missing adapter and all the handover checklists have ticks everywhere with no crosses or annotations. That is what happens in the excitement of delivery combined with the distractions of organising the insurance changeover and the long-winded handover process of the car itself. By the time we were in the car and he was explaining things the last thing in my mind was whether the paperwork mentioned the missing adapter or not. Combine that with his explanation that everyone buying these things was in the same boat and I honestly did not think too much of it at the time.
Of course I will go through Fair Trading if need be, but all the dealer has to say is they supplied it and there is nothing I can do about it. I have absolutely no proof that they didn't supply it and they can just point to the official paperwork which shows there was nothing outstanding at the handover.

Hopefully some good news. As promised VW Australia got back to me within the 48 hour limit (about 30 hours to be exact), but I had to explain the problem all over again to the lady (not so good since I thoroughly explained it the first time in a lengthy phone call). Anyway, she said leave it with her and she would get back to me within 15 -30 minutes. Around 20 minutes later I received a call from the original salesman with whom I signed the contract (I really liked this original salesman - he was very genial and honest, but he was on holidays at the handover a week later so another representative handled that part where I did not get the adapter).
He told me that this was the first he had heard that I did not get the adapter and I believe him. We have the car booked in for the 1500 km inspection next week and he said they will fit it and program it (?) then. I don't know anything about bluetooth - I do not use it myself at the moment but certain passengers of a younger age are expecting to link their portable media devices to it and a more senior person wants to use their phone with it. My own phone is about 10 years old, so I cannot use it myself until I get a new phone anyway. But at least anyone else in or using the car at the present time should now be happy.
Anyway, hopefully it will all be sorted out by this time next week. As you have probably gathered I bought the car from the Paul Wakeling group and I have to say that my experience with them is a perfect example of how a dealer is only as good as the salesman you get. Wakeling owns practically all the brand dealerships on Blaxland Rd and when I went to the Hyundai dealership to try and test drive an i30 diesel I got treated with no respect whatsoever as if I was a time waster. And when I went into the VW dealership to drop off my licence details for the rego a few days after signing the contract, again I was ignored even though i was in full sight of all the staff there. But again, this first salesman who was absolutely great in every way, was on holidays.
I get the feeling that if this original salesman handled everything through and through things would have been much different. Who knows, I might actually have gotten the adapter there and then, or if not, I am sure he would have been honest as to why and offered me something like a petrol voucher as compensation.
Anyway, my experience is something to definitely keep in mind when buying one of these cars. The little Polo stretched my meagre budget as it was, since I was originally aiming for a Yaris till I saw how much better the Polo was and realised it was worth the extra few thousand. But it does not leave anything left, especially after buying the interior mats and bonnet protector. So no money to go buying the adapter seperately if it had come to that.

Good news.
Are you dealing with an elderly chap with the initials pmm? He is a decent guy. I have an issue with my gti that i purchased from them. Pmm pointed out that a side window was scratched and would be replaced on the 1500km free service. Called them last week to book the service and turns out they did not order the part. So now they've ordered it and will be fitted next week. Pmm was apologetic. I don't think that was his fault. Its the service guys.
Good to hear that you are getting your screen.

I picked up my Gti MY13 from a Melbourne dealership approx. 6 weeks ago, I noticed during pre-delivery inspection that the bluetooth adapter wasn't fitted in the holder of the car.
I brought it to the salesmans attention he didn't know why it was missing but promised he would find one & send it out.
Upon investigation the following monday (picked the car up on sat.), he said that they were out of stock in Australia and it would have to be sent from OS.
Two weeks later it showed up registered post.
To be honest, I would have preferred to get it reprogrammed to not have the unit fitted into the dock at all.
Its just a pain in the ass having to remove it out of sight every time you have to park the car because some junkie will probably thing its a phone or GPS left fitted and smash your window if your cars left in the street.
I have to agree with you on this. What were they thinking? I saw a Caddy Maxi Life with one and it is installed on the right hand side of the driver where it is not even vertical. It looks awful. Also, I take it that the microphone is located in the display that sticks out. If this is the case it means that it is only of use to the driver.
It was the price that put me off, but thankfully I can use my phone courtesy of my ANS-610.
