when I purchased my last new car, the sales rep told me not to baby itduring the initial drive-in. he said that if you baby the car, it will never drive hard.

As long as you dont labour it, by driving hard in too tall a gear, its ok, in fact - good to do high revs

this is very true.......cars nowadays should be driven from the showroom floor the way you would like it to perform. perfect example....i have two mates that bought a lancer ES on the same day as brand spankers about 2 years ago. one mate thrashed it around from the get go whilst the other was convinced it needed to be babied until about 1500kms in order for it to run properly (even thought the Missus-Bitchy sales bloke said to drive it hard). i can tell you right now....there is a big difference when the two cars are going flat out side by side (in controlled circumstances of course ).

Yeah similar story when my dad used to ride motocross back in the day. Guys with bigger engined bikes were being left for dead cause they babied them. One of his mates then had the engine rebuilt and thrashed it from then on and he felt a massive difference.

You guys have to remember that the modern ECUs are smart. They adapt to the driving style over a few 100kms.

If you baby your car regularly (due to traffic etc) the ECU does various things and power drops slightly due to modified parameters the ECU is working with.

If you drive it hard for a while it sort of resets and adjust its parameters, and the power is back!

So if your car is feeling sluggish, take it for a good long hard run and see the difference it makes.

I've been thinking about it for a while, so here's the question ....

Guy, will resetting the APR program to stock and then back to modified, force the ECU to use fresh parameters and not the ones its been building up and remembering for a while?

You could always buy a FMIC and stick it in your garage (or hide it somewhere, as I usually do ) until you have time and/or money to fit it .......

Mine was hidden for a year before fitment.....
