    I'm looking to change my gearbox oil. Redline seems like the way to go.

    I don't have any crunching, but am looking to add a little smoothness to the changes.

    Seems the MT90 or MTL are options, given my mods and possible trackwork (minimal) is there a reason to go one way or another? I think there was another Spec choice:

    I've read people using 1.8 or 2.1 bottles, should I get 3 to be on the safe side?

    Use MTL. MT90 is slightly heavier and is good for older gearboxes with more wear/kms than yours probably has (ie mk 4 Golfs etc). The bottles hold one US quart (.945 litres) and Polo boxes vary a bit in capacity, but you'll need at least 2 litres. So get 3 bottles.

    Also, slightly overfill the gearbox. The volatile components in Redline tend to evaporate over time, and this makes sure the level stays high. Do this by raising the front pasenger side of the car, which raises the gearbox filler hole on that side above dead level. A brick between the front tyre and the garage floor is about the right amount of lift. If you're doing it yourself it also gives a bit more room to get under the car.

    The best price I've found for Redline stuff in OZ is www.performancelub.com/. This also has a link to the manufacturer's site with lots of tech info/specs etc.

    Agreed, MTL is the go for the 02R. Mt90 for the 02M. For smoothness Noone cant go wrong, 200- 300 ks to let the stuff wick in but im sure on the 1st drive you will notice the difference, i say this with confidence.

    Can anyone assist me in where the drain plug and filling point are? Can this be a funnel and hose job?

    The fill and drain will be 14 or 17mm hex or a M14 spline. The drain will face straight down and the fill faces forward IIRC. Funnel and pipe is the sensible way to do it.

    Undo the fill plug first, You don't want the fluid out of it and then find you can't put any back in!!

    Your level plug is at the front of the trans, 17mm internal hex. The drain is the same plug but underneath. Buy yourself a 17 hex socket. Buy yourself a Tom Thumb pump bottle which hold a litre of fluid, great little filler and no mess whatsoever. You can buy them in any good auto store and last resort you can get it at Autobarn. And make sure the gearbox is level, not the car that some may suggest, when the car is level the box is still a bit canted. The back of the car will be jacked a bit higher to achieve this. Really thats it, good idea is to go for a run and get the oil warm , itll drain quicker that way. Plugs get torqued up to 25NM.

    I aways use one of these - about 20 bucks from Autobarn and a total no mess solution.

    Checked in bunnings, they have a kit of them, but seems like overkill for just 1 x 17mm. Would anyone carry these individually (i.e., just sell the 17mm?)

    Just a reminder - the gearbox plugs are female, so you need a 17mm male hex key, not a regular 17mm socket. Dought if Bunnings have these, even in sets. Try Repco.
