    Pinging problem

Is it possible for a car to go out of tune?
My Polo has a K04, blow-off, 2.5" downpipe (no CAT) it has an APR tune, which was supossed to be for the new K04 turbo and has worked fine till recently. It now pings under full load, mainly in third gear. I though it may be a petrol issue as I use V-Power, but I changed to BP ultra - no better, I even used Octane boost, which made a slight differance but not much. Any one has any ideas it would be great?

A can of worms, internet diagnosis.

First thing to do is have it scanned for faults.

True that Gav, sooooo much time wasted with Net diagnostics, in fact more times than any it causes more dramas. Seen a few disasters with Vagcom shade tree adaptions this week, granted its a great tool but treat it with respect thats why there is 2 sections . Sorry for slight off topic. Back to it, try it standard and see what its like before you blame the tune, the tune just doesnt go bad , how can it the software is written as is the factory one, all it gets is byte changes , The ECU doesnt have a mechanical item dictating what goes on then goes bad. Its the other variables we have to think about. If the car is good on the tune up till now what part of the software makes it go bad????? Have it scanned , and have the live data recorded, dont rely on codes they suck most of the time, live data doesnt. Fuel or a component going bad or a hose clamp, so on that one the mighty smoke test.

I tried putting the car back to std map and it ran - perfect no pinging. I then switched back to the K04 map and ran the car home on late shift (18 deg) and it had no pinging, so it seams to be a heat thing. I will get in touch with APR and get them to check it out i supose.

Yes it's the K04 tune, I'll have to get in touch with APR and get it checked.

Agree with Gav, diagnostics. If you are worried, flip the tune off in the interim.
