To chip or not to chip...

As I am new to the world of polo GTI's I am interested to find out if its worth getting the APR chip.

Im not into racing the local looser from the lights but I used to have a big arsed xr6 which was supercharged and I miss the horses.

What is the general opinion? I was told it voids warranty, but I was also told that once switched to normal mode its almost impossible to find/notice.

    Any advice would be great

    cheers

Just about everyone gets chipped. I haven't because I've got enough power to get into trouble with the law and I'd like to see how quick I can go on the track without being chipped. And after half a dozen days at Wakefield I'm not that far behind Len and Tim

Having said that, APR is not the only option, check out GIAC as well.

i've got the APR chip and every now and then i switch it off (for about 5 mins) to remind myself of the difference it makes.

as Floody says, APR is not the only chip. there is REVO, GIAC, APR, and Oettinger (not in any particular order). there is not much that separates these chips power wise so shop around and see what you can find.

as for warranty, i had work done recently at VW and as far as i know it is undetectable. just to be safe, switch it back to normal mode when you take it in, for when they take it for a test run after work done.

please someone correct me if i'm wrong, but the chips do not void warranty unless it is the cause for the fault in question (if you get one).

but from where i'm seated, it's a great investment, makes a huge change to the car!!

speak to the resident poster Guy_H for more info on the APR chip, he'll tell you all you need to know

Yes, that's correct, all of it.

With Oettinger you can pay an extra $100 or something to get a warranty for 12 months (extendable by 3 years after the 12 months).

Drive around for 5 thousand k's then get it. So then you are mindfull that stuff did change. Otherwise you may be too use to the car.

But. After driving around with APR chip for 10000+ k's. Car feels so **** when you turn it off. lol.

You could just do the trial for 6 hours and see if you think its worth it. Then make up your own mind.

Do bluefin chip Polo's? I know a few golf GTI's with bluefin, never heard of a Polo with it.
