Ipod connector for VW on VAG Parts.com

The ipod kit set for VW on VAG parts website. Does that one work for our cars? It's much cheaper to import it than buying it locally from the stealers.

    Please let me know!

    Thanks.

    Hi mate,

One of the things I had optioned when I got mine in January was the VW Ipod adapter. Silly me thought a fusion of VW engineering and Apple would be quality....

I can only say don't do it.

    Reasoning

The Adapter sits in your glovebox, you can't have the ipod outside of the glovebox without having the glovebox open otherwise it crimps the lead (unbelievable but true)

When you plug your ipod in ALL functions become non operable, you can only change the track via the track forward and backward button on the stereo, its very inflexible and ruins it in my opinion.

The damn thing doesn't switch off when you turn off the ignition so you have to disconnect it and turn it off otherwise it sits there charging and draining your battery!

I wish I had saved the money and installed a different none VW one

I hope this helps you not make the same mistake, and it is a mistake. I'm very disappointed in it, although still use it to play my tunes.

    All the best
    Steve

the best way to use the adapter is to either:
-select the playlist/artist before you plug it in OR
-have custom playlist (up to 6) named 1 to 6 that you can select with the buttons on the cd player. the 1st 6 playlist on your ipod are selectable with the buttons 1 to 6.

i have an aftermarket head unit with the i-pod adapter and it is great. can change playlists, select songs by name or artist, change volume, skip, fast forward and rewind, pause. it also turns off with the car so will not drain the battery. the only time i take it out of the glove box is to take it inside and update my songs.

its a kenwood 01D-XXV 25th anniversary head unit.

just remembered my ipod has been in my parked polo since wednesday night.

The ipod should stop taking current from the battery once it's charged anyway.

That's pretty poor. For around the circa $400 mark, you could easily find a neat little head unit that has ipod control and a lot more features.

How does the Ipod adapter plug-in to the factory head unit? Does the factory head unit have RCA in or out? I dont really want an Ipod, I have other things in mind.

I think it's a custom connector, no RCAs.
