    Brief intro & some questions...

    Hey Pogo Folks,

just figured i'd drop a line, and say hi to y'all!

Well, I'm Ben and i am a converted dubber. Started on an X3 Excel twincam, upgraded to a S1 RX8, before buying my polo from Barloworld mascot Jan Last yr. She has proven to be amazingly reliable (as opposed to the stupid mazda) and i've upgraded the bits that have gone.

The car is an 06, silver with the pov pack (no leather)
I've had her GIAC'd and serviced by exoticars parramatta, APR R1 DV, RDA slotted rotors, Remsa pads, Whiteline control arm bushes, some clarion screen, Avi fronts, peerless sub and an audison srx3 amp..

My conti's are getting bald, and im considering an upgrade in both rims and tyres (as the rims were pretty much the only flaw with the car when i got it)...

    My question is:
What are the laws regarding lowering our polos, how high does a gti ride standard and whats the lowest i can take the car legally?

Also: assuming i get a 18*7.5 with 38 offset is it nigh impossible. I know 17" is the practical choice, but i'd really love for that slightly obscene look.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated..

    Will get pics soon

There is a complete wheel size guide in regards to the laws for all states in the Wheels and Suspension topic of the forum here...

    http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/f39/...you-17533.html

In regards to 18in wheels... I am running 18 x 8in Porsche Twist replicas with a +35 offset... The only time thes rub is when I nail a decent bump...and that is only on one spot of the inner guard that hangs lower than the rest. Honestly, once the wheels are on, they don't look that big in 18in... I was very dubious before I fitted a wheel that size, but not now...
See what I mean... And the car has only been lowered about 10mm on Weitec springs...

im abreast of the NSW laws regarding wheels etc, i was more curious around the lowering side???

What rubber are you running on your rims, looks HOT... If i go 7.5" wide 18'sm and 205wide rubber you reckon i'd avoid rubbing?

also how does the car handle riding on 18's?

Ride height reads like this... So long as any part of yout car (except for brake backing plates) is no lower than 100mm off the ground (this includes exhausts), then you are fine.

I am running 215/35 R18's on mine. I think you should be fine with that size, but even with mine now, I very rarely rub.

I got my Falken FK542's for $300 each though Bob Jane. 35's on 18's look perfect in my opinion, and the 18x18in +35 is the perfect size for the Polo too... They sit flush with the guards, and completely fill the wheel wells, with enough room for travel... The only place is rubs is where the top most inner guard screw hangs down about 8mm lower than the rest...

UNless you want your car to be a 4X4, I would get 17,s. Because the cars are very narrow, I think 17,s look best as the car will sit closer to the ground.

But who knows, there are a lot better choices in 18inch wheels, I might be converted soon lol

I cant find a set of evolo's for the life of me... can get exors new for 1700 without rubber.. but im not that keen..

Theres a thread about 18*7.5 rims on our car, and theres a black 4 door on faux-detroit rims, i cant figure out why it looks so bad compared to the porsche rims..

    anyone?

Looks great mate. All you need now is some decent springs or coil overs to lower it and you will look sweet.
