Hi all,
Had a call from John Lee at McCarrolls VW this morning to inform me that they had details of their first allocation of Polo's for the launch in May. Can't recommend John enough, he has been very good to deal with. If you are looking for a dealer/salesperson give him a call.
I have now put a deposit on one of their first batch. Pricing still not confirmed but they have based it on the current Pacific pricing which obviously means the contract is not water tight but at least I have an allocation. They have taken deposits on 4 already today!
I missed out on the dark grey they had (by about an hour!) but got my second option of Reflex Silver. It's the 1.2 TSI comfortline with DSG, no other options. Seems that the only ones allocated to them with the "sports pack" (including the boavista 17 inch rims) were the 1.2 TSI in manual.
Delivery expected mid May as it is on the boat on its way from South Africa now.
Looks as though the calls of 8th May launch are correct then.
When can we test drive one dermot, or do we have to wait until 8th May ?
I'm heading into the dealer tomorrow to do the same. Hopefully they can do the spec I want. White 1.2TSI DSG with both comfort and sports packs.
I've always been a manual driver and hated autos. But I don't understand peoples issue with DSG other than the price premium it commands. After driving DSG, I'll never have a convential manual ever again (unless there isn't a DSG option).
You guys may not agree with me, but the Peugeot 207 GTi would be good competition in this price range, as would be the current Renault Clio Sport 197. The quality issue may come up here, but the size, performance and price are definitely in the same range. I say the Clio is in comparison for price, cause if you look on carsales, dealers are trying to flog them off well below original RRP's. I think the Alfa Mito Sport is also competing in this category for size and sporty appeal, but will probably miss the mark for overall performance - but as Jeremy Clarkson says, you're not a true petrol head unless you've owned an Alfa.
Also the Focus XR5 definitely competes on price - but is obviously Golf GTi size...
Anyway, just some food for thought
Craig
I've driven the DSG too, so I can say I've tried it out - yes I think it's good, but as I just said - I want a clutch pedal and a proper gear shift lever. I want to control my launches - not some computer. Plus, I still think I'm smoother (ie with a clutch pedal) at starting off in all conditions apart from flat out than the DSG is - just my opinion...
