Scoring on Brake Rotors - GTI

Hi All,

So yesterday I picked up my silver GTI (manual, one of the 5%!) and did about 250k's on some nice hilly roads as part of running it in. I was firm but not agressive on the brakes and I have noticed dark circles on the rotors on both sides. I've phoned the service dept from the dealer and they said it's part of the bedding in process of the brakes...

I've owned and worked on card for a couple of years now and I'm pretty sure he is feeding me crap. Is this something to be worried about? (Just trying to establish if the service guy is lazy/an idiot and giving me wrong information) and going back to the dealer with, or me just being pedantic...

I did a search and could only find info on warped rotors. The braking action is very smooth at the moment, no shuddering at all.

Can you take a photo to help explain what you mean?
I mean, the discs are relatively soft, as are the pads. You'll get plenty of brake dust. Do you get circles on the discs after the some "firm but not agressive" braking.... sure. But it shouldn't be groves or anything... I wouldn't call it "scoring". But photos will help quicker than anything for people to be able to say "yes" or "no" to whether they get it too and it's normal or not

The look quite normal. It's brand new, in fact it just looks like the rotors and brake pads are just wearing in.

Mine looked the same. Just ticked over 1280km on the clock and it's starting to fade.

To quote the mechanic I spoke with "Clearly you're not applying the brakes hard enough, often enough" -hint hint-.

Don't feel too bad, mine has this too. I'm aware there's a TPI for it, so I'm waiting till first service to get it fixed.

Avoid using harsh wheel cleaning agent these products will cause discoloration on all brake components takes a while to fade out of discs..
