I get some vibration in bumper to bumper traffic as well now that you mention it. Doesn't always happen though, and it's nothing compared to the jerks I've had previously. I wonder if Guy has anything thoughts on it.

I ponder, the shudder you experience I think I've experienced it too on occasion of driving/raging at dsg and it is always been when on an incline and Hill Hold Assist activates and causes a shudder as the first gear engages to move away and the brakes release.

As I don't have one to test this theory out on right now: community spirit, etc. What say ye?

Except I've turned down my HSA setting in the ABS controller and it can even happen going slightly downhill. It happens on the very moment the brake comes off or just as it's coming on enough to stop the car in bumper traffic where you can't always predict where the car in front will decide to stop (clutch not in enough perhaps - since in a normal manual you'd ride the clutch a bit as you approach the stop). Maybe I'll set HSA back to normal since I turned it down before installing the DSG tune which helped reduce jerkiness.

Golf 7 Speed DSG shudder / clutch issues

Is the vibration a result of clutch slippage? It feels like trying to accelerate in too low a gear if you were in a manual car.

It's strange as it only really happens after the engine has warmed up. Another instance is when you've been stuck in bumper to bumper traffic for say a 2minutes without moving. But either way the DSG tune is good fun, although I have noticed that fuel consumption may have increased a little - could just be my foot though
Based on what Guy was saying in his Dsg tune thread under the harding subforum, the dsg goes into 1st gear more often than attempt a low speed takeoff in 2nd for the purpose of minimising clutch wear in too high a gear. I take this to mean shudder in 1st is not as bad as 2nd.

Would be interesting to have him comment further.

I would argue if the shudder is on initial friction point u r fine. If it is in 1st gear after the initial clutch engagement but happens while u r still in 1 st it is an issue.

    Mine unfortunately is the latter

It certainly feels that way. I dont really get why its more apparent when the car is warm though.

More power is available when the engine is warmer? Is it an actual slip or shudder?

One test i used to prove slip was floor the accelerator in 4th gear in manual mode and the tacho would jump. However to achieve that clutch wear was pretty bad.

Perhaps try doing that in manual mode from 1500 rpm in the odd gears to see what happens. 3rd and 5th should be good.

Fwiw some of the loan cars i drove with the dq200 did have shudder in 1st on standstill takeoff and low km on the odo

I wonder if the supposed 2012 version of the clutch pack is the same thing thats going into the Mk7's. Oh perhaps the 7 speed dsg for the mk7 is a different design altogether. Surely you'd think it's a much more robust model than the one we have at the moment. So one would hope that all replacement parts from now would inherit the new design. I've read a few hundred pages worth of causes etc etc.

    1. faulty shim?
    2. faulty mechatronics
    3. just crappy dsg shift points in general leading to abnormal wear and tear

The DSG recall in China, did they identify what the cause was?

Whilst mine is a 6 speed, I've been feeling a bit of a shudder lately and it's just feeling rough in general with gear changes. Should I get it checked out? Doesn't happen all the time
