Anyone know how long it generally takes before it gets allocated to a vessel so i can start tracking it?
VIN and Engine numbers are supplied at "Checkpoint 8 Handover to Sales". It's actually an addition 6 to 7 days before it "Exit Production Plat", a further 5 or so days before it reaches "Arrival Port of Shipment" and can be 8 days or more before it will "Departure Port of Shipment". It is after this that it shows up on the tracking site.
So, from the time when the VIN is available, it can take 3 weeks to a month before it'll appear on the vessel tracking site!

Just out of interest, when did you place the order? and what was the eta given by your dealer?

True - but others should be aware that VW's erWin tool identifies an MY11 model as "Year of manufacture: 2011". The report from erWin should NOT be relied on in this circumstance for year identification.
I realise that anyone that has their VIN already would understand this, but for those with future orders that receive their VIN around January may assume that this means a 2011 build when it's actually referring to MY.
