Yeah no dark blue in MK6 GTI.

Had my car for 1 day almost and I have noticed the sound immediately.

And what I find funny is that the very first thought I had was - "sweet, sounds like an E46 M3" :D

Not annoying me as yet and i've not read the whole thread but ill be sure to let you know if it ****s me.

You get used to it and forget the "noise" pretty quickly.

It's almost like a hissing not a rattle?

Rattle to my ears, and only under acceleration - no bumps.

Definitely a rattle (like a bead bouncing erratically on ceramic tiles)

Open front passenger window and quickly accelerate from 2K to 3K rpm.
You'll hear the noise from "under the car"

You can't miss it

Sounds like pinging (detonation) to me. Is the engine labouring in a low gear or is it at higher revs (no labouring)

is it only under full load or all the time on light throttle? or only sometimes?

Edit: just listened to the sound clip on page 14, couldn't hear much besides the indicator.

My 2010 build GTI has this noise when the motor is under load (i.e. going uphills) between 2400rpm-2500rpm.

The noise is a resonating sound that is a by-product of exhuast savenging.

Sounds a bit like a rattle snake waging its tail. Nothing to be concerned about imo. Sort of like the popping & farting sound of the exhaust on gear change. Adds a bit of character to an otherwise clinically refined motor vehicle.

On the positive side: No longer have to look at the tacho to determine when the revs at at 2400rpm-2500rpm.
