So I have now booked the car into Norris - they have two clips in stock and can fit it on the same day as the test run.
At least I don't have to go back again to fit it after the test drive like Austral said - bunch of absolute a-holes and muppets.

I know Corey said earlier that this only applies to the EA888 engine but I have an 05 mkV GTI that makes this exact sound.
'like rice being shaken in a can'
The thing is my turbo is a k04 from an Audi S3 (not exactly sure which engine, I could possibly find out. I think it was a MY09 or 10)
Is it likely that this clip would be a fix for my noise as well?
Thanks, Tony.
I have taken my car in and they installed the fore mentioned clip in less than 30min. The car sounds much better now.
Got the car back - all good! Norris were pretty good as they also replaced my rear wiper blade free of charge as it was making a lot of noise. Far better than those moronic muppets who work down the road at Austral VW.....
I am questioning the 'we need to drive the car first' thing - the car went a full 400m the whole time it was there. me thinks they kept the car longer to charge more hours back to vw.... racking up the billable hours, not much different to lawyers i guess......-
FWIW, Took our Octavia vRS in for its 20'000kms service yesterday.
Asked if they could fix the wastgegate rattle under warranty whilst it was in, to which he replied straight away "yep no worries".
The speed and lack of questioning in his reply suprised me somewhat
So I then asked "So you've done a few then already?".......
"No your the first"
Anyway problem solved. :)
Now i just have to rack up enough kms for my MKVI GTi to reach its first service so I can have that fixed to (only 8000kms in 14 months!)
Just thought I'd chime in a let everyone know that my "resolved" rattle is now back with a vengeance. Initially I wasn't sure whether I was becoming more sensitive to the rattle or specifically listening out for it - but I now know for sure that it's back and it's worse that ever.
I'll be booking in an inspection to see if the clip has come loose or fallen off altogether. Either way, if that can happen, then a clip is not a permanent resolution. The GTI will be out of warranty in November, so to put up with this rattle for virtually the entire time I've owned the car is completely unacceptable.
