Yup, you need VAGCOM to check the version. I can help with that :p

so i shelled out a small bomb for the MY12 LED license plate globes for my golf R as i was sick of stuffing around with crappy ebay LEDs that would throw bulb out errors. i order the new LEDs and install them and they looked mint.. theyre not retardedly bright like most ebay ones…
i was happy until i jumped in to the car and saw the same freakin message!!
yes i was very pissed! so is it possible to disable the bulb out system for the rear numberplate lights? i assume if theyre fitting the exact same items to the new MY12s then it must be possible right?
Hey mate. If you looked in the 1st page of the forum listing, or the MK6 Index Thread you'll have found this thread, which I've merged your thread into. It contains both the fact that you'll get an error, and the fact that there is no solution as yet.
Right now the only good solution is the R Dash LEDs. The OEM ones are also good, but if you get this error message, you'll either need to put up with it until a coding solution is found, or make some resistors to trick the car into thinking it has the correct load.
Okay I have been following forums overseas and the conclusion thus far is:
- Rig up resistors onto the OEM LED's to remove the Bulb out warning (there is a guide on doing this)
- Wait for a fix
- Ask your dealer to update your BCM to software rev #0615 or above.
Asking the dealer to upgrade your software sounds like the best fix available at the moment, but as this is not something that is covered under warranty, you will need to be prepared to pay the dealer a fee to have this done.
See the last few pages on these threads overseas:

Can the guys in this thread that have the OEM Lights please see if a dealer is happy to try the new software on your cars to make it work? I don't know if this software update will affect other electronics in your car however, this will need to be something you ask the dealer or study up on.
Got a reply in my inbox from automotor168 today, it said he's sent out the new (AM reception issue fixed) lights out in the mail today, will report back when they arrive.
