    Yeah - this $7000 figure is pure bull****.

    As others have said, 10 to 12% discount is the figure to aim for. So on a $52k RRP drive away price, you should look for around $45,760 to $46,800.

    So right now you're not that far off being only $1200 out of that territory !

    But don't think that you're just entitled to that discount. You'll need to work for it

    I have to agree $7k is a big discount based on you rrp and is a bit rich to ask for up front, and the dealer is right too if you think you can do better go elsewhere. Initially I think you should be angling for free on roads and dealer delivery once you're truly keen and ready to deal they may be willing to come down a little more depending on the number of options you picked.

    elisiX if you had been eligible for Corp discount you probably wouldve got the same deal or there abouts you'll prob find that they gave you the equivilent discount anyway.

    people I guess need to remember that whilst the margins may be high for the importer or principle dealer the dealership and/or the sales guy need to deal on a predetermined margin to make a living, that being said don't give up and take their first offer mos things are negotiable to a point within reason.

    i agree with this,

    i has four friends working in this industry, one in Glen Waverley Subaru as a mechanic, he told me just try to get down 1k of RRP price;

    another friend in Toyota as a mechanic as well, told me try to squeeze every cents! he told me he can only get 13% off as a staff.

    the third one was work in reception in Mercedes Benz, and the fourth one as a sales in the same dealer, i been told by them, 10% is just basic disc., try to get more, but it will be very hard. at first time, they told me to go for Brighton VW, but i didnt.

    Sure, what you say is quite possible Nath as we had discussed the Corporate discount and investigated my eligibility at length. But if I had received a corporate discount on top of this discount I received being 11-12%, it wouldn't have been 'that' outside what some others have achieved. Mal being one example at over 15%. I know that my paperwork certainly doesn't show a discount for corporate, but as you say they may very well have put me in that ball park anyway.
