From the evidence you have posted, the battery is fine. That battery place that said it should be 13.5 surely must have been a work experience kid?

    x2.

Without knowing exactly how they did the test it's hard to be 100% certain, but a fully charged 12V battery, at rest, should be around 12.6V - that 13.5V figure is nonsense.

If the 12.58 was measured at the battery, while the engine is running, then I would agree that there is a problem, as I would expect 13.5V as an absolute minimum. If this was the case, I would suspect a fault with the charging system before the battery.

Yes I agree, and I will make your statement more accurate and easier to understand to others less familiar with the car charging systems.

When you switch the engine OFF and measure the voltage within short time, lets say 15 minutes or less then you can see 13.5V on the voltmeter and it can actually stay at 13.5V for quite a while. So, if you want to be more accurate with measuring the battery voltage, then remove the surface charge by turning the headlights on Hi-Beam for 30s while the engine is OFF and immediately measure the voltage.

Don't get tricked by the systems where the ECU monitors and manage the battery charging, where the battery is charged only when it requires charging. In these, the batterty voltage can be 12.7V with the engine runing, basically all cars with the stop start technology.

Hi there. We've just bought a Mk 6 GTD in black with DSG. Upon collection the sales guy told us that the vehicle will 'sound a 'Bong' alarm if the battery voltage is low, which it did as we collected it from the dealer. He said it needed driving to charge it and that it won't do it again.. It hasn't either! Your should have kicked off if the voltage was low..

Seems like I jinxed myself replying to this thread...went to start my 2 year & 10 month old Tiguan at the supermarket today and the battery was totally dead, only drove the car there not 10mins earlier. Called VW Assist and they sent out RACQ who replaced the battery under warranty, had $199 on the receipt, glad I didn't have to pay for it...top service from VW assist and RACQ.

Looks like you guys were right.
VW test the altenator and battery and said that both were fine, and sent me on my way. No replacement needed.
They did admit that it was strange though, and told me an keep an eye on it.

    Thanks for your help everyone!
