I'm car-less as of next week. If you guys are right and the dealer is wrong (Was told around september) then there will be issues.

The Golf R was always going to be a huge waiting game, especially if you want your desired spec .

    Picked up my R today!
    Wooo!!

I've only done 35kms in it, so I might provide a bit more of a review when I have some more experience. But having driven WRX's for the last 7 years (MY03 and MY0 I can happily say the R puts them to shame! The R feels faster (I suspect due to DSG gear changes), but the biggest difference is in the ride/handling/steering. Its in a whole different dimension, nowhere near as much body roll (the MY08 was bad for that) and a lot more grip. ACC makes a very noticeable difference to the handling, in sport mode it felt more like driving my brothers Elise than my WRX (with crashing noises going over potholes like the Elise...). I've never had a 'luxury' car before and am having a ball with all the gadets.
My only gripe so far, the turning circle is rubbish compared to the Subaru.

Yeah 0.1m extra is pretty bad.

    Golf R = 10.9m

    Subaru WRX = 10.8m

Which is why the handbrake was invented.

    No Way!
Well I guess I look stupid. But my usual reverse into the carpark turned into a five point ordeal because I kept running out of steering wheel (granted I've only done it twice)

The response was "just buy from the local guy - we are not giving anything off". I actually didn't expect much, but nothing was a bit of a shock to be honest.

I currently drive a 2008 Audi TT that I will be selling privately, so I don't want the GTi as it is essentially the same drivetrain (albeit 155kw now). Hence the R - all wheel drive and more power plus 4 doors (and a trip to APR after 2-3,000 klms are done!).

    Cheers

Well, I just bought an Audi S3 5 door instead. Black with manual. Trip to APR is still on the cards, just need to sell the TT first.

Figured the S3 and R are basically the same car, but I get leather and a few other goodies as well as standard.

    Cheers

    Dan
