Anyone have a pic of an R that is confirmed to have the 18s? Ive just had a look at a lot of the promo pics and car-show pics and they seem to have the 19s. Ive zoomed a few of the high res images available and im fairly sure I can see 235/35. So the question is, what does it look like with 18s?

I have a GTI arriving in about 3 weeks, time to make a decision.
Any delivered R car that you can find pictures of on the internet, that have the 'silver' headlight "holder" means it has the 18" wheels. Both the 19" silver or black Talladega wheels change the headlight "holder" to black. (So, don't look at promo pictures, as they all had the silver headlight holders, even though as you said, they have 19" wheels).

I did a google image search for "MK6 Golf R", and on the first page of results, I found this:

I just realised that all the photo's I've been collecting have the black headlight, I think I like that better especially on the Rising Blue. But the pack the dealers got has no mention of the different headlight holders. Wonder if we'll only be getting the one type regardless of wheels fitted.

Yes ive read nothing about the black/silver holders for AU. Seems a strange thing to A) have different holders in the first place and B) couple it with rim options.

I really like the look of the 19" rims and the price isnt too bad, but im concerned with ride quality. I need something that rides smoother than my MPS3. Hoping ACC + 19" will give that result.

You are both correct, that the dealer's information doesn't contain mention of the headlight holders yet.

But keep in mind that the dealers do not have the "final specifications" yet. They have a "summary" of the technical information and only a "key specification summary". The options are also only a short single line without any descriptions.
But for what it is worth, the pictures of the options do include the black headlight holders on the 19" wheel options.

LOL yes, ive read that PDF many times.

    Just my 2c on pricing.

Im thinking about $55,990 for 5dr with DSG. As others have suggested, no leather should reduce the base price. A few other factors should help as well. The $AUD is much stronger now than it would have been when the pricing for the R32 was released. Im thinking the 2.0T would also be cheaper to drop in the R than the V6 would have been. We also have slightly lower tariffs now as well.

Not sure if you guys have seen but pricing is on the NZ website and its listed at $72,500 which converts to $55,317. NZ should have similar import costs to us. For reference they list the GTI at $57,500NZ = $43,875. As we know, it sells for $42,990. So the conversion isnt too bad.

NZ website also has more detailed spec sheet.

The lucky NZers are also getting the impressive 199kW and 350Nm of torque.

Yeah, I'm with you there. In fact, I'd go even further. I think that they really need to reduce the base price of the R by $4389 to account for the fact that leather isn't standard. Since if you want to add it, that's what Leather costs when LCT is taken into account!

Therefore, I'd say a 5dr with DSG should be $55,100

And that's before you include those other factors you mentioned, and take into consideration the typical "Australian perception on more is better" with the change from 3.2L V6 to 2L 4 etc.

That don't worry me in the slightest. 199kW and 350Nm is a lot less than any VW enthusiast's R will be running at in any case

I'm with you on the 19" rims. Looks great, but would definetly need ACC. 19" rims also one of the options that i would need to test drive in before i committe to.

I'm pretty sure that hardly anyone on here with a GTI payed full price, and I'm certainly not going to pay that on the R either. I'm expecting to be able to get a similar discuount as my GTI quote off the RRP (13%), although i also expect that it will be a factory order and i'll have to wait another 3 months for delivery. But until we have RRP, then we can't even start negotiating!
