Am planning on chatting with the dealer this week about cementing my switch from the GTI to an R. Biggest concern now isnt the RRP (I think we've got a good idea on that), but more so about what the drive away pricing will be (will there be a discount in other words). I really want a 5DR R w/ DSG, Xenon, Leather, MDI and Nav for early 60's. ($62-63k max). If it means moving to a 3DR to make this happen I might entertain that also but would rather the 5DR.

Yup.... about $2k after all of those taxes etc. Makes for quite a difference.
5DR is just so much more practical for me. But if it means losing a few doors or Nav, ill lose the doors I imagine.

I'm not normally one to ridicule others choices in options but this one seems a bit silly to me? Surely if practical is better, loosing sat nav is the obvious choice? How bad are you at finding where you are going once you factor in how often you actually drive somewhere different?
Oh and going by your earlier post I think 60k is doable but you sig also has a sunroof, so yeh your range of 62-63 is achievable IMO
Sorry I meant to include Sunroof into my breakdown for $62-63k including a discount. At the end of the day itll all come down to what's available on release. I will NOT be waiting 5-6 more months for a custom order - no chance. That's where my issue stems from. If I 'let go' of the GTI when its due to arrive May 20th, wanting an R that is 5 months off ill be stuffed. As for the 3/5DR being more or less practical, the 5DR will always be more practical - but I don't 'need' the extra doors. I would just prefer them. For many its a very specific requirement to go the extra doors, for me its not and I am treating them like another option. Something i'd like but don't need.

Ah ok, my apologies.
The only issue you face is that if you need to go for a 3dr to make the budget, you're highly likely to miss out. The 3 doors will be allocated only to people with orders already. I.e they will be an order only spec. I suspect due to the last minute turn around, they have only been able to secure a limited number of 3 door vehicles (due to O/S demand) and are not allowing dealers to have extra stock just sitting around.
