.. and also the DSG7 clutches are designed to last the life of the car. Implementation of Launch Control and using it would probably compromise this design criteria.

Logger might explain that it's got 1st or reverse preselected, but I can't see why when you already in D, ie you are planning to go forward.
No. Anytime you are stationary in D or S (or T) first gear IS already selected. 1st & R will only be concurrently selected if you are in P or N. If "you are already in D and stationery, and release the brake" the K1 clutch will start to engage. The manner in which it engages depends on what if anything you do with the accelerator pedal. The result can be anything from rolling backwards to lurching forward Hopefully we achieve something satisfactory in between. If I want a quick start I just use S.

Not so, see above. Quicker take off might be because this process emulates riding the clutch as one might do in a manual.

PS all this relates to the DSG7 of course as I have not looked at the 6.

Thanks for the replies. I will have the Golf tomorrow so I will try it in tiptronic and sport. As the car has less than 1000km I have not been too aggressive yet.

    Cheers,
    Dave.

speaking for myself- the GT Sport has launch control.

Push DSG over to manual, turn off ESP, brake, rev, release brake- away you go with some hefty squeal!!!

Any owners of non R32 gti gt sport models please chime in?
