Auto Closing Sunroof & Windows Tricks and Tips?

why does everyone ask if this opening and closing feature is standard or not? Isnt it pretty obvious that it is standard? God...and plus, if you dont know if it is, just do it your self...its not gonna hurt you to hold the lock/unlock button down..

It's not standard and you have to enable it via VCDS.

It's got nothing to do with holding down the lock/unlock button. You should probably go back and read the thread a little closer

If one leaves the family dog in the car with the windows down a little and the roof on tilt, is it possible to have this feature enabled without the roof closing automatically when it rains? Or can this feature conveniently be turned "on" and "off" as required after parking?

It's an all or nothing.
It can only be enabled or disabled by VCDS.
It is not enabled by standard on any car delivered....

I have often thought a possible reason for it not being enabled ex factory, is to cover the case of people leaving kids in the car with windows down. In a warm climate, Rain shower, windows close, temp skyrockets and disastrous outcome. Unlikely but possible.

God...and plus if you held the lock button down (to close the windows and roof*) it's not gonna hurt you but it could be murder!

I have often thought a possible reason for it not being enabled ex factory, is to cover the case of people leaving kids in the car with windows down. In a warm climate, Rain shower, windows close, temp skyrockets and disastrous outcome. Unlikely but possible.

It's not enabled by VW anywhere in the world on the Golf because it's not a supported feature on the Golf. Audi on the other hand does support it. The only reason it can be enabled is because VW uses common modules across their cars and marques. Some specific combinations of gateways, RLS and other components will cause a power drain in the Golf so it's enabled with the risk of excessive power draw and other errors (like the lost communication with RLS code that appears at random). In Audi they test and know the combinations that work, on the Golf it's hit and miss as it's not intended to be used.

So the reason it's not enabled is simple, Golf is a entry level car and this isn't something that is a selling point whereas for Audi and other upmarket cars it is. They're not going to dilute their premium brands by enabling all the features on the entry level model of their budget marque.

Once you enable it with VCDS, you can disable it via a checkbox in the MFD/MFI Settings > Convenience page iirc

I think it may now be illegal to leave children unattended in a car unless you're paying for fuel at a servo.

skoda provides this feature, and can be enabled/disabled via the maxidot (comfort settings), provided the rain/light sensors r activated.
no need for vcds/vagcom.
for the auto-close to activate (i.e. open windows to close automatically) when it starts to rain:-
- lights must b set to 'AUTO'
- wipers must b set to 'AUTO'
- car must be locked. i.e. keys out of the ignition.
or
- car has been locked for more than 12hrs.

i highly doubt that there r sensors on the back seat (i.e. dog in the back seat), like the front seats, that will prevent the auto-close from functioning.
