I actually like the look black VW badges, Rob looks to have done it too.

how i wish holden would re-introduce the torana. hopefully the rumours are true. and let's face it, not all muscle car fans are bogans. i bet most of the forum members here love hearing a v8 roar in the distance, whether they like to admit it or not! :D

Latest edition of Motor has the new Torana on the cover, no recessed allen key screws I'm afraid - maybe you could petition Holden to reconsider :D

I spent my late teens and 20's around blokes (weren't called guys then....) in the 80's who had Australian metal - plenty of 8's and 6's in the Ford/Holden/Chrysler variety. Small queensland coastal town (Yeppoon) laps around the main drag on Friday night and hanging out in the main street stuff.
I had a 1980 standard corolla (well, sunroof, 4 spotties, Aungers, SAAS wheel and Clarion 4 speaker stereo) which I floogged the arse off and was regarded as odd but liked for it.
God I miss it :)
Saw a 74 XB with stripes, fat BF Goodrichs on Simmons and a wild sounding 351 driven by a young guy disturbing the peace in gentrified Paddington this morning.
Good to see Gen Y aren't all totally smitten with these crappy 4 cyls j:

Yeah those ol Corollas would never say die lol. Oh yeah, IMO, the 73-74 XB GT351 was probably the most menacing, evil looking muscle car ever made in Aust. The design of the rear qtr panels combined with 14" tyres gave the impression it could deliver a blow that would knock down the doors of fort knox.. Hope the mods permit us this indulgence ;) relates to bolt on guards for Polo right :D

GT3 - so right. Those pumped rear quarters are just yummy. And you are right - wide 14/15's look just right - any bigger spoils it.
Just like the Polo (hello Mods!)
If you want proof of the sexiness of the XB, just hire Mad Max 1 or 2 sometime.
Easily the baddddddddddest movie car ever and definately in the Top 10 Horniest Cars to ever roll a wheel. Keep your whimpy Ferraris, Lambo's (well the last 15 years of them anyway) and Porsches.
Yes - Polo GTI's - where were we?
I often hire Mad Max just for that scene in the underground garage (with some pretty bizzare machinery in the background) where the Goose says "Kick her in the guts Barry" and that beautiful blown 351 breathes - what a noise!!! (Phase 4 heads, twin overhead cam (yeah, right...), sucks Nitro - 600HP through the wheels)
"You can shut the gates on this one Max, it's the Ducks Guts"
:)

Yes, I loved Brian & Jane's 1999 model I nearly bought a yellow one with black leather interior. Only a poor trade-in on the Green T4 stopped us (or my user name would be Yellow Polo).
I love saving money on Transport.
This Polo is VERY roomy. I have lots of head & leg room. It is about the same length as the Mk III Golf, 40mm narrower and a bit slower :-( . I was hoping acceleration would be the same.
I think it will serve us well, and we were well treated by Solitaire during the purchase. I would recommend them.

I would have liked a 1.6 Auto, but Julia didn't wish to spend another $10-12 thou.
She love her little car. Wheels are going to be sandblasted & powdercoated. I told her she can have them done any colour she likes. She has decided on black!

Hey, didn't we agree on how sexy the big wheels looked? You can get a decent set of 16's for under 1000, black ones too!
Either that or DIY paint the wheels, its cheaper and more rewarding.
Oh and is your polo the 100hp model?

Just bought this for my Wife.
I`m an active DSK and Aussieveedubbers member (I own a `54 Oval Bug and `59 Split Bus) so thought I`d better join this forum now we have entered the Watercooled scene!!
I`ve actually owned a Mk1 Golf GTI and Mk2 Golf 1.3 back in the UK so not really new to the later VW`s.
Anyway here`s a pic or 2 of the new ride, it`s a 2000 1.4 16V model.

Looks like a poor attempt of the Sema GTI.
i actually don't mind it. the only thing that needs changing is the rear lights, they just don't look right in red. they need to be upgraded to these ones:

That paint job looks horrible compared to the Sema GTI. I never said it looks bad, just nowhere near as good.
Not really unique when it looks so similar to something that's famous.

i agree totally that it is nowhere near as good. but think about the budget that APR had for that car (its for a world renowned AUTOMOTIVE EXTRAVAGANZA :D). this may be this guys daily driver and i give him thumbs up for the effort and outcome. the whole point im getting at is that it shouldn't be compared to a purpose built show car. for all we know, this polo could have been done first. also, the paint design is quite different, its just the same colours using thick stripes.
i guarantee if the SEMA GTI had never been done your thoughts would be the opposite.

I agree with you completely, you have to give props to this guy, for all you know he could have been the first one.
Lets start first thing, two completely different cars, with two completely different engines!
One has a budget that is pretty endless the other could have been done on a budget or a small fortune, you don't know what this guy has done to his car or how good the paint job is either that pic is a little blurry as well.
And you say its not unique well do you see any other Polo with that paint job rocking those rims....... Nope:?

Just gave my car her first wash and wax.
I dropped by Final Inspection and picked up about 8 different microfibres, some car shampoo and OCW -- smells nice!

I haven't measured it myself but apparently yes it's a full 35mm drop from stock I've been told. Still looks high-ish IMO. But I'm happy with the results. The ride is a little harsher but it definitely rolls less in corners and sits flatter when I really push it in turns.

I think that's 35mm from stock of a non-GTI. So 20mm from GTI.

is there any way to get a hold of the wide body rally kit and the wheels?
The wheels are Oz Racing Superturismo WRC and you could find them if you look around. You may be able to find them here in Aust otherwise you would have to import them. They are cheaper in the US but then you have to pay tax on them...
The widebody kit is unique to the S2000 rally Polo and I highly doubt its something you could buy and fit to your car. More than likely its full metal fabrication done by the guys in South Africa who build the cars.
There is one of the S2000 Polo in Australia and he is also a member of this forum perhaps you could ask them for more details.

Nowhere near as well, I have both and they didn't come close. Brasso and Silvo are more for housing fixtures and stuff, autosol is designed for automotive and marine grade metals. $19 well spent and you don't need very much at a time...

Autosol costs about $10 for a tube. I bought a tube about 4 years ago and it's still going. Althought I don't polish knobs as much as others...
Yeah any auto shop will have it in stock.

Behind every S2000 beast is a regular Polo platform. Checkout the missing part of the (awsome) huge guards, its just a regular polo bumper.
