Welcome to MkIV life.
I've done the external resistor fix. preeny on here made me up a metal plate so should be able to help.
I believe the brushes in the fan wear out making them draw more...
I found my heater didn't blow hot air when the fan resistor burnt out and blew the fuse on top of the battery. I installed an external resistor and it worked again. I'd check simple things like...

Had a couple of relays replaced, and fingers crossed, the car continues to start first go. Will see how it goes for another week.
By the way, the guys at Volkspower have been awesome as usual for...
Just thought I'd dig this thread up from the dead. Since last posting four years ago (scary how fast time flies) my fuel economy has gradually deteriorated. I'm now lucky to get 470 km to a tank...

Had the speed sensor replaced but that wasn't it so the CAS was replaced but that hasn't fixed it either. Dropping the car back tomorrow so hopefully they can get to the bottom of it.
Hmm just tried starting it again and no go. It just cranks. It did sound weaker so I might check to see if it's the battery.
Hi guys,
My Golf GTI is struggling to kick over (got worse all of a sudden) and without getting a scan was wondering if anyone had any ideas. I've replaced the temp sensor about two years ago and...
"Cheap fix" and "VW" don't seem to go hand in hand :) But in this case I might get lucky!
Could be the MAF or the part that sits on the battery (mind has gone blank).
Definitely take it to a VW specialist though - try Volkspower in Burwood. They know their stuff inside out and have...
It doesn't really take long to get to operating temp, it literally stays around 75-80 if the heater's on but is dead on 90 when the heater's off. I'll try a new thermostat - won't hurt to replace it...
Is it normal for the temp gauge to fall below 90 when the heater is on? I don't recall this happening when I first bought the car but think it started after I replaced the water pump or temp sensor....
I recently fitted Brembo discs (plain ones) and Mintex? pads all round. They perform really well and very little brake dust. Cost me under $500 delivered from ECS Tuning.
Thanks grtuned for the suggestion, I'll try that and I'll also regrease the pins and ensure everything is all tight in there.
Stan, brakes should be bedded in now - it's a different type of noise.
Hi all,
Didn't know where to post this.
I changed my front brakes on the weekend (brand new discs and pads) - I cleaned everything with a wire brush, brake cleaner etc, greased the guide pins,...
They've definitely stepped up their game. Noticed it years ago when I sat in a new Tiburon and they've only gone up from there.
I must admit I genuinely love the Optima design and the Koop is...
The new Passats and Jettas look like they are heavily targeted towards the Chinese / Japanese market. Plain and cheap looking. As a company looking for bigger market share and more profit it makes...
Thanks mate. I want to do it tomorrow so need to go into a store and get it. I believe Repco or the like have bigger kits for about $60.

Digging this one up from the past.
FYI I bought Brembo discs and Mintex pads all round from ECS Tuning for about AUD$450 delivered to my door in about five business days.
Was going to ask if I...
Indeed. It's a $350ish part/job. Just get it done.
Got an Xbox on the weekend just for this game :) Kinect is cool too!
I found that with similarly priced Maxxis tyres - great when new, after a few thousand km they're not nearly as effective.
I was quoted $205 each for the KU31s! I can get them for $140 each + $40...
You can get Audi TT carriers and rotors (no pads) for a touch over $500 delivered from ECS Tuning.
