This is the stuff I used on my Mk7 Golf. Spray on some cloth and wiped around the rubber seals and also were the seal touched the paint...worked a treat....

For those that have this fault and are not part of the recall this aftermarket repair may be a cost effective solution (if it's the same problem listed in the recall)

Most definitely get the clutch pack done as you will get the latest issue with upgraded larger spigot bearing, actuating lever, friction material and an additional 2 year warranty on the work.
