turbo failure is common enough for vw techs to diagnose over the phone. done mine at 150k. had same symptoms you described. in hindsight though i would go for genuine from vw. not from a local garret...
turbo doesnt boost in 1st gear. dont know why but however that is done, perhaps it is faulty so it wont boost in second either.
i guess they saw me coming then. i paid $89 for 3 pages that i couldnt print.

i think at that many k's i wouldnt bother. if i ever buy a new car again i will ask them for discount and no warranty as my experiences are theres no point cause they usually dont honor warranty...
