Well to close this thread, after a year of having the van running quite well ( around gearbox issues - now also fixed ) I've only driven it a tiny amount and only been on two proper long weekend...
Sounds like the turbo is shot, you can get a new turbo core out of Mamba pretty cheap, I have one on hand actually I don't need ( I'm in Aura ), bought it "just in case" although my own turbo seems...
I did a lot of research on this engine as fitting one to the Yeti as a repower was a real option, and you get seduced by the bi turbo, water intercooler and short intercooler plumbing. Even the head...
Right back at ya with a nice build thread, I'll take the time to read through it after work.
I'm spiking well above 30 on my TDI and blowing silicons was becoming a total PITA. I took to sanding...
Yeah it does seem to be a dying art, seems people just upgrade their cars these days rather than do rebuilds, although with cost of living that might turn back around! There's no car under a...
A long overdue update.
Decided to do a full rebuild of the Yeti as I've owned it for near ten years now, and still get asked if it's new. Lot to be said for regular washing and some good polish...
Late to the party, but having the same issue with my Yeti, turns out if your car has auto reverse parking it runs a grey/specific rear ABS sensor rather than the typical black front ones that shows...
Yeah that sounds like the "spinning k2 clutch bush" problem I'm fearing. Sonnax have an upgrade bush, the drama is you have to pull it entirely apart to get to it...
All fingers, toes and other...
Auto or manual?
Either way it sounds big, and if auto, won't be simple or cheap.
As a follow up the US guys didn't feel confident they had the exact 09K valve body to send out up front, as the 09K was never released into the USA. So I've finally pulled my body out ( on the god...
Fancy, but a lot of coin. I am using basic bolt on eBay LED spotties 3" 40W each and the effect is great, just a switch on the dash and a relay, were like $70.
Up to you, but $1400 is new turbo...
I have a drain on my starter battery, so I disconnect it all the time without issue. Need to sort it, it's quite annoying.
The Lithium will be fine sitting there charged, so I'd disconnect it too...
Well as an update to this thread, and me messing with valve body clutch adjusters and endless adapts, I've bitten the bullet and paid an American company send me a reco valve body with all the Sonnax...
Good point, and will absolutely do before trying to get this beast of a box out!
The next step is to drive it a few more times from cold, I just took it out again now and the ATF temp was 40...
A huuuuuge thread on an "alternate" site, I've read the whole thing whilst being dismayed this arvo, the good info is the first few pages, with a bit of stuff towards page 30 onwards pertaining to...
There are low power versions of the 2.5 engine, used in the T4 mainly, and they started at 65kw!!
Fine, someone had been into my box before I got it, the prior owner said the gearbox was "new" although that also turned out to be a lie, someone had replaced the fluid and main filter prior to my...
Interesting findings, there's a tiny mesh filter insert in the remote cooler return line, it's a bitch to get out without breaking it, just an o-ring press seal but still tricky, and mine was totally...
I'm now down to just the nasty 3-4 flare, bang back into 2nd when slowing down, and box is throwing a 17114 gear ratio limp error at times.
Pulling the valve body again now, fitting the new loom,...
Is in an auto and are all the numbers highlighted?? Could very well be trans limiting the power.
Like already said you need to scan it, even with a generic OBD reader and narrow down the vast...
On trying to adapt my gearbox yesterday I drove around an industrial estate endlessly for near 50kms, and my peak auto temps were 83 degrees!
If ever a car deserved this....my favourite mod to date.
