After many years of "sensible" family cars, I got bitten by the old Golf bug again after helping my son buy a Mk5 TDI as his first set of wheels.
So I went on the hunt for a semi decent MK2 GTI,...
looking for an early 90's Mk2 GTI to scratch a mid-life crisis itch. Want to restore to stock condition and do some warming up under the bonnet, so ideally a presentable example in and out is ideal. ...
Hi all
Been a while since being on this forum. Helping out a family member with a 97 Mk3 Cabrio (1E) with an AGG engine. Gearbox issues mean it would be better to replace with another box, but...
Under the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth), so long as the vehicle is serviced at the correct intervals, using the correct replacement parts and consumables, a dealer cannot make it a...
yep, another ex-Subaru owner after 17 yrs driving Liberty wagons and tinkering with Golf's on the side.
We went over to the Octavia Scout because of all the reasons Subaru has lost it's way (no...
Hi all.
Sad day as Rommel's Panzer was declared a write-off after someone clipped the drivers side late last year. so there are some Mk3 cabrio bits and I found some hidden Mk1 cabrio bits. PM me...
I had the same issue, using the VAG-COM I found a Hall Sender Signal error, this was due to the dizzy being slightly out-ie timing. A local mechanic might be able to adjust it when you next get a...
it reads engine codes (correct) but also can detect faults with a bit more accuracy than the old eye and ear. You can also read the data on the car and record vitals when testing the car out.
One...
check with Volkspower on 9808 6777 as they might have one ready to rock. They are at Burwood so postage might not kill you unless you head north for a quick drive.
if you have about $250 spare you can also order a VAG-COM interface to be able to read the ECU. I had a hall sender issue but mine was a simple adjusting of the timing. You can also read and clear...
just checked vagcat.com & German Auto Parts and the number checks out. Locally they could be dear though.
I have bought much from German Auto Parts, for two engines that weren't sold in the U.S. The trick is to get onto vagcat.com (you will need to register) and compare between engines. Haven't failed...
bugger! you have remoed the inspection plate by the sound of it.
Depending on the quantity of oil seeping it might not have spoiled the clutch material.
If it has you would sense it soon enough...
certain its the rear seal and not a leak around the sump gasket? These can leak, especially if there are tell-tale signs of drivers bumping the sump.
i knwo they aren't that cheap but while the tranny's off it can't hurt to replace the clutch too, you can save yourself doing it all again when she starts a slipping.
Hi all.
I have moved into posting and viewing the Mk3 threads since the Hitler Youth Wagen was written off last year .
While I was doing a major service today on the new toy (Rommels...
agree Jmac, with the wiring behind the dashboard you can easily cause yourself some grief by not being prepared and and shoritng something in the process. There are harness adapters available to...
I had the roof out and cables replaced in 2008 on my old Mk1 cabrio. Bought the parts from M&T Manufacturing. They do great OEM roof parts and at the time the roof kit with cables was about $450AUD...
ah yes the small bits that fail that require either a whole new part, some cannibalisation from donor cars or some home 'engineering'. See how you go with the boys at Camdem, give Volkspower a look...
Welcome to the world of Golf's This is my 4th (3rd actually driven on the road), and the 97/98 Cabrio has been a bit of an evolution from old Mk1 bodies throughout the ages. One word of advice is...
Mate, just logged in after a few days and saw the updates. Bummer about the Vento mate, was a sweet ride when I saw it at Volkspower a few weeks back. Commiserations and glad to hear you're in one...
a number of cars shared parts such as brakes. My only advice is to check out the part numbers on the car and work from that to ensure you get the right parts. Even locally with the best endeavours,...
I paid $99 to have a key coded by Doncaster Volkswagen. No problems and I now have a second key. Paid $125? for the cut key from Germany so it is a genuine VW key with immobiliser
Thanks VW Imposter, some good tips.
I was looking for something more permanent. In my earlier days, I used to respray black vinyl items with a combination of plastic primer and spray paint but...
