Wouldn't bother. There are no painted surfaces down low. The areas that mud, dirt, etc. is thrown up on, is either unpainted plastic or satin chrome plated plastic. Nothing much to damage, and...

B8 also has a slightly smaller fuel tank than the B6/7 (65L vs 70L, I think), so that will make a difference to the range.
Having said that, I found my previous 2010 B6 gave slightly better...

I find the idle speed is very dependent on the pressure applied to the brake pedal .
Light pressure will result in an idle speed over just over 1000...

The triangle in mine has 2 different part numbers: p/n 8D9 860 251 B under audi and vw logos on the main case, and p/n27R03566 under a GEKA logo on the lid of the case.
