The compressor is probably blown. Mine never gave any codes, but a new compressor resolved it.
Steering is electric, so not belt driven.
There could be heaps of reasons for weird noises, but it does sound like a belt. You could remove the belt and see if that changes anything, but be warned...
Unplug the seat ? That may be a permanent fix ;)
Sweet. Yes it was PITA job. But good to know I avoided a $1400 fix.
I will update my DIY maintenance record to show how much I saved.
I removed the steering wheel and trim.
Then took out the whole key barrel.
Getting the security bolts out was tough, I ended up using an easy out. Replaced with internal hex.
Bought parts from...
Sorry, but what the hell is a wizbin ? Newcastle lingo or something ?
Take them to scrap place for some cash, or drop to a local mechanic if money is not a motivator.
I built up a nice pile; 6 rotors, 4 struts and various engine parts, then did the trip for some cash.
ok some research indicates the issue is the steering column lock.
Going to have some fun times pulling the fuel pump fuse to kill the engine after each drive and pull the battery terminal....
Wifey called from the shops, car will not turn off. They key is stuck, can turn forward to starting position but not back to off position.
I'm guessing a new ignition barrel is needed, but what...
Hi dejawitting

I've done the mount on a MK5, it is the same design.
The subframe comes out, onto the bench. Cut both top & bottom mounts out, press in the new ones.
Lots of new bolts required. Then a wheel...
I replaced the EGR a few weeks back. Finally no more CEL.
But once it started working, it then exposed an issue with the PCV return pipe having a hole. Such a huge amount of vacuum on those lines it...
I finally replaced the sway bar bushes today.
The bars is 21.7mm.
Yes it can be done without removing the bar or dropping the subframe. Drilling out the swaged bit of the bracket was the a bit...
224,050km on it.
I rarely have to top it up. Always used 504/507 spec oil. I found the Castrol works best, other brands seem to burn a little and may need 1litre between 15,000km changes. Castrol...
Am I doing this right ?

Timing belt, water pump etc.
Its funny to see that the time consuming bits were releasing the radiator hose, putting the top timing cover back on & removing the...
I got Bosch 1987580022
I replaced the in tank fuel pump as the gauge on the dash was showing empty for the last week.
The pump itself was quick and easy to replace, taking out the back seat was the time consuming part. ...

Hey I just noticed your intro thread. you say you have a DSG, but also mention 09G.
The issue on this thread is about the 09G 6 speed Tiptronic auto. it is a traditional auto with torque converter....
Yep you crazy. VW offered 3 years warranty, you now have a 15+year old car.
Did you take the cap off the brake fluid reservoir ?
Use a tool like this to push the piston back, keep one brake pad in the calliper and push against that.

I just need a door skin bolt, a dust cover to the caliper guide pin. and maybe an EGR if it is know to be good.
Can I grab a part off it ?
When it is time to replace the brakes, look for some rotors with corrosion protection, like powder coat etc.
I like DBA Enshield, but there are probably other brands too.
