Anyone got recommendations for DEALER servicing?
Probably need a bit more information to get a worthwhile response here mate.
Where are you located?
What are your car details?
What service do you need - 15,000, 30,000?
Some might be able to recommend a non dealer VAG specialist that might be able to help too.
Allan Mackay Auto's, Moss Vale. :D
Tell them you're part of "the club" XD
I was happy with the quality of my 15k service last May at Trivett Blacktown. It was on the expensive side though - $480 including a 4 wheel alignment (I'll be doing a bit more shopping around for my 30k!). Note that Trivett has just closed their Blacktown Skoda dealership, it's all moved to their Parramatta dealership.
Good to know you were taken care of by the Blacktown guys, another member (Ausspace?) had positive experiences with both Blacktown and Parramatta Trivett. Sucks that Blacktown closed as they're so close to me, I was going to book in with them but now I'm booked in at Parra tomorrow for my 15k. I'll let you know how that goes...
I went to rockdale skoda for 15k service, $330
I'm up for my 30k service..... And have the dreaded DSG "shudder"..... Just want somewhere that will look after my car concidering the wheels and suspension
Oh.... And I'm western Sydney, Penrith, not too keen on going to Nepean motor group!
That's a good price from a dealer. I got the service checklist and pricing from Zagame Skoda Richmond (Melbourne) when I picked up my car.
15,000 km $460
30,000 km $620
45,000 km somewhere more expensive again (going from memory, written down at home somewhere)
They priced was only based on number of cylinders, these prices were for 4 cyl either TSI or TDI didn't matter. When I went through the checklist the only thing changed on the 15k service is oil and filter then all the standard checks, the only difference to the 30k service was pollen filter I think, doesn't really justify the big price leap over the already expensive 15k service.
I'm thinking of going to a local euro specialist, Eurogerm in Bayswater quoted $250 for 15k service using liquimoly oil (or fuchs if you request it). Seems good to me, and a lot better than getting into Richmond for dealer servicing.
The way VW/Skoda structure the services is that they all start at 1.5hrs labour for a 15K service, then add blocks of labour on top for each part that makes up the service required.
So for a 30K, it starts at 1.5hrs for a 15K (plus parts), plus 0.3hrs and whatever the pollen filter is worth, and then the dealer will try and sneak 0.5hrs on top for brake fluid (24mths).
Hope that makes sense. Besides, it's a bit silly to slap 0.4hrs on for an air filter replacement at the 45K, when pulling it out to clean it is included in the 15K. Realistically, you should only be paying for the cost of the filter itself, in addition to the cost of a 15K service. The service schedule does take into account to an extent, spreading the running costs of the car out a bit however, a lot of dealers will ramp the service costs up exponentially to the distance travelled.
For example, I've seen dealers extort twice the cost of a 15K service out of customers for a 75K, when on paper, it's exactly the same service.
Good info.
Skoda servicing in general seems exorbitant, in my old xr5 Ford servicing was around $300 for a standard service and that had 2lt more oil used compared to the TSI. Even though they charged a lot more for servicing the imported models at Ford compared to say a falcon, it was still easily cheaper than what Skoda charge.
Guess it's just a downside to buying a niche car in Aus, but I knew that before I bought it so can't complain too much!
Why not?
If you really want dealer servicing that means you want to pay a lot for junior mechanics to change your oil
Down the road from you in Seven Hills is BWAauto - they service BMW, Porsche, VW
They can perform log book servicing without voiding your warranty
They have all the latest hi tech gear - decent bunch to deal with and talk to
I've had three Skoda services at NMG through sheer convenience and never had a major problem with them (ok, the did forget to call me to tell me parts had arrived). Pricing seems about what it is elsewhere. I do wish I didn't get the extra charge for all the BS they add like free breakfast, carwash and a ride to the train station.
Yeah, I think you're right on the 45k. Must have been the 60k that was up around $1k, makes me glad I have a manual! I'm sure on one of the service checklists it mentioned timing belt/chain "inspection" which added more labour charge into the price, may have been on the 60k as well.
My brother takes his GTI there for servicing and mods. They should take care of your car. BWA was exactly where I was going to go, but....
I've also got this issue, and the reason why my octy is at Trivett Parramatta right now. The 37G8 software update for DSG should hopefully fix this (assuming it's similar to the VW 37G7 campaign), and an item listed as 48J8 (can't quite remember off the top of my head?) are being actioned.
skoda need to bring in fixed servicing.
when I recommend a skoda or VW to people, the answer I get; servicing costs are too high. and they are right!
that software update for the DSG, anywhere in VCDS I can see what version it is? because apparently I imagined an update at my last service even though the gearbox is acting differently. not necessarily in a negative way
You need to go into the DSG, it should give you a part number for the Mechatronics, as well as the software version.
Yes - the fixed price servicing seems to reflect the real cost/value of these services
One guy working for me has a Toyota Kuger (V6)
He had 3 years of $180 services,
but when the scheme ended (after 3 years) the sevice cost jumped to $500, the dealers must think we are stupid
Capped-price servicing is often subsidised by the manufacturer to an extent.
If it isn't, the dealer is either not making any money off it, or planning to jab you with other things like tyre rotations, wheel balancing, wheel alignments, injector cleans, a/c disinfecting, and so on, which aren't part of the capped-price scheme.
They're designed to keep customers on the books by under-cutting the small-time guys like myself and others.
I can match or better them in most cases, but not always.
I love the way Hyundai in particular gouges with very high priced servicing, we already pay too much for korean cars relatively to elsewhere in the world and then they have another go once you own the car. Kia and Hyundai share the same parts and Kia quite often are 50% less so most people in know go visit the Kia dealers parts shop....no real excuse for Hyundai to gouge, and yet they do.
I can recall getting parts cheaper from Mazda for my Laser years back than from Ford, and they were again the exact same part coming from the same Maz-Ford spare parts warehouse.
I had botht a warranty issue and my 45k service dealt with byTrivett Alexandria - no complaints with either.
My service costs to date (manual) have been $365 (Damelians), $441 (VW Village) and $575 or so at Trivett.
Only reason I'm going to the dealer is to fix the shudder!!
Yeah BWA Sounds like the go once the shudder is fixed!!
That's the plan!
my shudder was more clunky and rattly. Gear 2 and 3 sounded like they didn't engage or disengage at the proper times. Driving home today in stop-start traffic after servicing/updates, I didn't feel any of the weirdness which I normally anticipate. Ill need to drive the car a bit more to give more thorough feedback.
On topic though, I just had a reasonably good experience dealing with Trivett Parramatta. $382 for 15k service. (90tsi dsg)
I've worked at both Nepean and barloworld..... I'd never take my car to barloworld.... Not that there bad or anything. It's a long story, more of a personal thing.
Sounds like trivetts is the go!!
Just picked up the wags from trivett parramatta..... Highly reccomend them..... 40k service $690 inc wiper blades replaced.
Bad news the wagons DSG woes weren't fixed with the software upgrade..... Back next week to have the clutches/mechatronics replaced........ And I have a leaking water pump...... :(
Just had my 30k done (I don't do many kms so I go on months instead). $650ish, and they wanted an extra few hundred $$$ to change the brake fluid. Complete rip off I must say, for nothing more than an oil change and basic check/diagnostic. Told them not to bother doing the brake fluid, and I'll have it done next time.
Schedule says 24 months, regardless of distance travelled.
Flate rate chart suggested 0.5hrs labour for brake fluid.
Yep 2 yrs for brake fluid, so if it coincides (did for me) then factor it in.
Just had my 60k service, vRS Diesel M6... $550. :)
Only other thing I paid for was $30 for fuel for the loan car... But I did put 200km on it, so whatever. :P
Had a 30K/2 year service done on my MY11 RS TDI DSG at Rockdale. Very happy with the service and the price ($445 all in). As others have mentioned, the brake fluid replacement is at 2 year intervals. I'm averaging 15K a year, so in my case it's pretty straight forward, so as expected the labour and brake fluid were inclusive in the service price. I was impressed with the feedback I was given when I collected the car. I was given an item by item account of what was done, and what the observations were, e.g. I wasn't just told that the brakes were checked I was told that their condition will definitely see them last to the 45K service, and based on the current wear rate perhaps even to the 60K service.
Someone else said that as far as dealers go Rockdale Skoda (/Kia) was the cheapest by far. I found that when I rang around too. That was obviously a consideration, but also that the workshop is convenient to my location. There's no flash lounge with free breakfast and expensive automatic coffee machines here (there's a good pub bistro across the road), but I found the service professional, friendly, and polite. Unlike some other places I've been to I got the impression that these guys really do give a toss about what they're doing, how they go about it, and whether I go back or not. On the basis of that alone I will be going back to Rockdale for the 45K.
Thanks for that feedback - very useful as they are handy for me also
my mate used to describe that little area as "man heaven". The old Banksia Pub (not the newer, flasher Roksia across the road, the tyre shop (now gone), the kebab shop, the motorbike shop & the brothel.
Would you believe that when they opened the kebab shop, the brothel complained that it was attracting undesirables!!
The workshop there is very small - 3 hoists & an alignment machine in the right side garage & maybe 6 in the left side - or that's how it was when I was mechanicing at that site for Toyota/Lotus in the 80s. It makes for a pretty tight-knit team. We actually ran the right side garage as a seperate entity because the guys in the LH garage were dirty pigs & their foreman was a lazy git. We crammed 6 of us up into "the top shop" and had a great time & churned through the work.
I might go back & see how it is from the customer perspective myself.
