nice blank piece of canvas you have there Manyu
i love the sunroof too..... ever thought about adding some vr6 seats to that list ?
nice pics man, they look crisp! also the 3 looks nice and clean, looking forward to watching it progress :) if you're not sure, i recommend "Forever Black" to use on the textured stuff, its a dye, and after a few coats they come up new and it lasts for aggggges!
Gw manyu seen your posts on JDMST aswell. Top stuff. Will be looking forward to seeing what you do with this. Maybe i should start a thread myself.. ahha
Thanks mate, not a professional by any means, but I do try :)
I wanted to try and see if heat gun helps restore some of it. If it doesn't, I'll go with forever black!
Used to follow your thread since the day you got it hey. After I got mine, went through all of it again. I live what you've done with it so far! Make a thread here too :)
Go for a heat gun for the spoiler and the texture trim around the sides works better than anything else.. will make it look brand new again i did it to my spoiler the other day and i was amazed! best thing ever.. Dont use it on door handles though, just textured parts spoiler and front lip.
Looks good though mate, i agree with mrVR6exy VR6 seats are a good upgrade and not hard to find or change over. Mk3's are the easiest front seats to swap!
whats this talk of the heat gun?? Can I get school'd??........
Thanks for the heads up! :)
Heat gun on bumpers - YouTube
ok, i'm assuming that works by slightly melting the plastic?? i'd also assume you'd wanna be careful not to remove the texturing?? looks the goods though! Food for thought if mine fade out again....
edit:
this is a comment from someone with a bmw? I wonder?
"Tried it on my bmw. It turns gray after a few days or hours. Dont do it. Youre better off using other products like forever black"
I wouldn't use forever black. Personally the best method. Is getting it/DIY'ing a proper paint job on them
Why not? it's just a dye and has worked famously for me every time? Sure painting is cool, but this is far easier and cheaper and there's less chance of things going wrong....
Mine had faded back within a month of less
I vote heat gun aswell, I did all my trim a few weeks ago and was the one who suggested it to a few other members on here :P It works really well. It doesnt melt the plastic or anything (just be carefull not to heat it too much) but apparently heating it up just gets the particles flowing in the plastic a bit, bringing the original non faded colour up to the top. I used forever black on my old car and it worked nicely too and lasted ages, but heat gun is my new favourite method now. Mine still looks really black, hasnt turned grey again yet.
Heres a 50/50 shot, about 1 minutes worth of heat on the right, untouched on the left:

Takes a lot less time then any other method :P
that's mean man, i'll definitely hit that up then :)
Hayden, maybe the prep wasn't good? I suppose there's a few variables as to why it wouldn't work as well.... This heat gun seems ace though....

What my spoiler dries like
Any more info on how long the heat gun method lasts? Forever black hasn't worked too well for me now either I was planning on respraying the bumpers until now...
Not sure to be honest, I only did it say 3 weeks ago and in the research ive done cant find many people doing it on mk3s so really dont know. I guess it will last a long long time but in other models of cars ive heard mixed things. Still, if you have a heat gun it cant hurt to try, you can still do any of the other methods over the top if you arent happy.

haters gonna hate mate :(
farrrrrrrrrrrkme.......so much hate
I can see how door dings in car parks could be an accident but will never understand why someone would key a car. :( Hopefully it isn't too deep and you can buff it out or something. Sucks.
Sucks a fat one mate. I had it done to my rear quarter panel on a previous golf. I have no idea what goes through these peoples minds, hopefully they get what's coming to them.
On a lighter note , it looks like you've done an awesome job on the detailing front. Looking forward to seeing your pride and joy progress :)

Really hope they rot in hell. Can't do much now besides cursing them on a forum now, scratches are pretty deep. Chances of them buffing out are really low.. I'll give it a go anyway when I get a chance.
Check out this thread in the detailing section about fixing key scratches. Looks like he had great results.

My MK2 sits, if anything, lower than that and have never had an issue.
