Hi all!! Long time viewer...first time poster!! Picked my Golf R yesterday...absolutely love it!! I've owned it for 26 hours and driven 300 kms!! One thing that's bugging me a bit though, when I turn the car off I'm getting a CHECK DEADLOCK! OWNERS MANUAL! message. I've referred to the owners manual and nothing is written about the message, as far as I can tell (verified by the red light on the drivers door) the deadlock system is working ok! Any ideas would be much appreciated!
its just a reminder that deadlock is on. in case you lock the car with kids in it they cant get out. you need to press the lock button twice to turn it off, but it only works that one time.
ive been told it cant permanently be switched off. but others may have found a way
The locking system is covered in my new GTD's manual, and as buzuki stated, the MFD message seems to be a reminder that a normal one-click of the remote will always deadlock it, meaning that anyone inside can't get out (short of smashing a window) and anyone who breaks in still can't open a door. However, if you give two clicks on the remote, it will be locked, but not dead-locked.Quote:

You may not get the message, but your car has the functionality. As far as I'm aware all MK6 Golf's operate in this manner.
Cool, another thing I learnt about my car today :) does Mk5 Golfs behave the same way or only Mk6?
I get the deadlock message on my MY12. I'm actually glad it popped up, sometimes I leave the kids in the car when I run in to the shops etc so now I'll be sure to leave the keys with them!
The deadlock message is for when you lock the car with the remote, not if you just leave it (at least that is what happens with my MY11 Caddy. If I lock it with the remote, then anyone inside cannot get out. If I do not lock the car, then it stays unlocked.
yeah thats right. it also so if someone smashes the window, they cant open the door.

That button you're talking about (on the B pillar) allows you to deadlock the car, whilst disabling the ultrasonic sensors AND disable the tilt/towing sensor.

There are times when you have to leave children in the car. When you go to pay for your fuel, you do not want to have parents empty the car of all their kids, and march them into the servo to pay for fuel, then march them back out and get them all seated back in the car. It is not like you are leaving them (as some have) to play the pokies.Quote:

So this has diverged somewhat, but it as far as the deadlock goes, people need to remember to double press the central locking remote, and hide the lighter away if the lighter and accessory sockets remain live. This should be able to be re-programmed by VW where it defaults to just normal locking and two presses deadlocks the car.
I've never heard of this before (although I might've read about it agesssss ago in teh manual (and probablyl dismissed it thinking that it was part of the alarm option), but I can say that I've definately noticed that sometimes when I lock the car I heard a nice little thud (deadlocks), but other times it's a lot quieter - I sometimes hit lock twice (with a few seconds in between) just to be sure.
Re. kids in the car - can't they just hit the unlock button on the drivers door if they need to get out? It might be worth testing and informing them (depending on their age, etc).
Nope, the internal unlock button is disabled as part of the deadlock process. Just have to make sure you do a double button press on the remote and it's all good.Quote:

You can only unlock the deadlock from the inside of your house with a key. If you can do it without using a key, then you haven't dead locked it.
So the example you use is a very good one. It's no different from a household dead lock.
And yes. It IS an anti-theft feature. It stops people from simply being able to smash the window and unlocking all the doors of your car.
Does anyone know if the automatic deadlocking feature can be disabled? I don't like it.

It is a bit like the automatic locking of the doors where when you get above 15 km/h (or something like that), the doors automatically lock. At least the automatic locking can be disabled, but not the deadlock feature. The only way I know of is to press the remote central locking one more time. The indicators flash, but there is no beep. If you have an alarm and think you may not have pressed it a second time and you are pressing it for the third time, the alarm goes off and you have to press unlock to stop it, then press once listen for the locking beep, then press it one more time and make sure you can see the indicators.
It is s system re-programming task and so VAG needs to be made aware that this needs to be an option and not the default. If VAG are not contacted, they will do nothing. Then there is The Department of Infrastructure and Transport Homepage as it might just take a nudge from them.
The doors automatically locking is able to be turned on and off in the Setup menu (last time I looked). On lesser cars without a setup menu, the dealer can adjust it.Quote:

The problem is that this is not what the deadlock mechanism protects against, and even the autolocking requires you to have travelled more than 15 km/h before it is activated. Even then, the intent of the autolocking is to prevent people opening the door while the vehicle is moving and not to prevent things like bag snatches.Quote:

Your car is locked.
You unlock it and get in. Oh, and btw, it's only unlocked the drivers door unless you have double-pressed (or changed the settings).
You drive away and it locks as soon as you get to 15km/h. I.e. As soon as you pull away from your driveway, or wherever you were.
So yes. The intention is to stop you from getting car jacked or things stolen when you come to a set of lights or pull over etc.
If you get in your car and don't drive, then you're able to lock the door manually.
If you stop and pick people up, then you're able to unlock the doors manually.
I really don't understand what about the system you don't understand is.
Why is it necessary to have the car keep locking and unlocking itself dependent on speed? That to me is pointless. Why would you need the doors to be unlocked when you're driving at speed?
I'll ask the dealer if the auto deadlocking can be disabled and report back.

Anyway you can just wire it up with the lighter feed coming through a relay activated by the 75x (ignition) feed similar to the Mk IV way:

In Europe the cigarette lighter was active all the time (blue wiring in above diagram).
The relay you need is part number 4H0 951 253 A with the control number "645" (same as old "53" relays, now superseded)

Now to the feed 75x. Where is this located? Does this have to be connected through something like a Scotcklok?

The diagram refers to the Mk IV connections
501 is one of the screws on the relay plate labelled "30"
S241 is Fuse 41 in Fuse Box on side of dash
75x is ignition circuit (off with starter) - screw connection under relay plate
Relay in Mk IV is plugged into a spare relay point in the Relay Plate under dash.
You just need to find equivalent connection points in the Mk V - all of these are in the fuse/box relay plate in engine bay (?)
In fact you just need to intercept the wire going to the socket and re-route it through the new relay - that part of the circuit would already have the feed and fuse in it now.
Then you just need to run a new 75x feed to earth via your new relay coil.
Please dont use a "Scotchlok" for this sort of stuff :facepalm:
