Just realized the dealer did not give me a code for the RCD 310. But wondering if there is one. Could someone please confirm one way or the other? Thanks.

Radio code? Definilty. Just ask the dealer, they should be able to give it to you.
I never got a code either...
If you're keeping the same radio then you won't need a radio code. You can pull it out and reinstall it as many times as you want to as long as it's the same car.
Explains why when the battery went flat in the Golf, it didn't ask for a code after it was fixed...
Last week I installed the 9W7 with the RCD510. Installation went well until I powered up the RCD510 and it asked me for the security code. The code was no where to be found in the documentation so called dealer who said I would have to bring the car in and incur a probable fee for them to recover the code (I guess they don't keep it on file).
Anyway all I had to do was start the car and all was working again + bluetooth menu ;)
dont know if it is good or not, but I have to re-enter the code after every battery disconnect. Good thing the dealer gave it to me (RCD 310)
Once I had connected everything up and turned the RCD510 on, it asked me for the code. I don't have the code. Anyway turned off the RCD510 and turned on the car and it worked like normal again. I guess the stereo didnt realise it was the same car until it was started.
Thanks Schibs. Good to know. For good order, I might just get the code.
I upgraded from RCD 310 to RCD 510 in my Jetta - when I asked for the code to the RCD 310 (they gave it back to me, I intended to sell it) they told me it did not need a code! Any truth to this rumour or am I now holding onto a very elaborate paperweight??!!
You will need a code when installing this in a different car. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but all of the RCD310/510 units on Ebay comes with the "code"
I thought so too! Might have to go back and visit them... suspect they'll possibly turn around and tell me there is a fee for doing so which will probably cost me more than what I'd get to sell the thing! Of course, they should have told me in the first place... but I don't have the time or the inclination to get into the argument with them. *Sigh*
Thanks for confirming my suspicions
Well... mixed news. I think. I may be more confused than ever!
Was told that the code is FREE - but that they code it in at the time of installation.
I asked if I sell it all the purchaser needs to do is have it installed by a VW dealer - the response was yes.
"We code the radio in the car normally . It only takes a few minutes . FOC .
The radio code can be supplied from VW Germany ,we need the number off the radio unit that starts with VWZ."
Make sense to anyone?
Yep exactly.
We use the vas to read the radio serial, then log onto vw germany to get the radio code.
Somewhere between 50 and 100 bucks on FleaBay... better than just throwing it in the bin
Found some numbers on the plastic key chain from my dealer.
Could someone confirm the code format please?
Thanks.
