Cool colour! Is it that one Beau was going to put new VR6 wheels on and polish up way back when I got my VR6 spares off you? I remember your thoughts back then and they sounded exciting...:D
im not gona give it away. but hell yeh! two doors are the shizzle
Haha it's kinda obvious bro, it's gonna be good i imagine!

Its gonna be great.
The donor car had a mere 123ks and was schmick.
The plan is to do the lot, working abs and cruise control.
Motor and front subframes are going in tomorrow :)
its gettin my old suspension set up too sachs springs and struts and lowered rears are you doing power windows too? I would love cruise control then again i would like a fully working clutch pedal.
Bloody brilliant :D
Gunna do power windows too?
Finally, there's actual documentation on a 2-door VR convert. Make it as detailed as you can, so people stop asking how hard it is hahaha
Good stuff Matt!
Love the colour!
I just got a blue one too :)
Yeah why would you build in problems? Windups are staying.
Its a real straight 2 door in a nice colour, as far as a how to goes, remove everything from the VR6 and the cl until both are like tin cans then put all the vr6 gear in the 2 door. Easy!
It`ll probably goto market, been waiting for a while to do a 2 door, but the cls have been to exxy until now. It might be the first of many, who knows....
i would totally consider purchasing it at a reasonable price (and if i wasn't a poor ass student) so the vr6 donor did 123,000kms? or the CL?
I love my wind ups :D none of this BS about replacing regs every 6 months lol
this car is going to be awesome!
best of the best! from what i have seen clean, straight,no accident, nice colour cl and last of vr6 with extremely low km !
:bowdown::bowdown::bowdown:
matt, put those electric window when you havea chance, two not four half trouble
Haha still trouble though! Electric for passenger, manual winders for driver j:
Where would you get 2 door electric window regulators from??
They are different to 5 door. Theyd have to come from a cabrio and would be more trouble than the 5 door ones.
The windups are staying.
Hooked into this today, bolted in the front subframes with the engine and box attached, plugged all the wires in inside and it started first go :)
Need to put the front on and bleed the brakes and clutch, but it is alive.
It looks great with the BBS and bunged some lowered springs in it too, took some pics, but the camera ran out of juice.
Interior is still in lots of pieces, plenty to do in there!
Impressive mate. Some of the aussies might not know this but owners that had done really great cars in golf+ would apologise if it had 4 doors. The stigma really used to be that bad...
so jealous, interested in a swap for my mk1 when its finished?
dom
I agree that the cars look better with 2 doors, but only the looks are nice to me. I'm currently driving one and it just feels weird haha.
Surely it's about the feel and what someone wants...but hey, there's no 2-door VR's here. That's always a plus :nana:
This might sound really dumb but what was the reason for not having 3 door gti/vr6s in australia?? while im on the subject, how come the corrado was never sold here? the same reason possible??
But, i agree the project will be sweet when finished...especially with windups!!!
That whole time period was VW free except for a few waif cabrios and T3s because the German Mark was so strong against the aussie dollar.
They still only send a selection fo the models here, chosen by some pr person who know best. Try and buy a manual passat for example.
Yeah the whole you cant buy a 2 door VR, but you can have a 2 door pov pack incites me to go sod ya, I`ll just make one then. :nana:
cant wait to see this mofo... brake bleed, rego and brum!
is this puppy for sale?
Its still regod bro ;)
Just need to change the engine number and capacity at the RTA :)
I did have a chuckle at this . The amount of people that want power windows is incredible . The Cabriolet is different cause it doesnt have the frame on the top . Maybe it might work , but good luck trying to adjust it to go up perfectly in the channels . That only leaves options from O/S . So you need to buy a window reg kit and wiring harness , then you need to fit it . Im guessing $1k+ and 2-3 days labour , all to just have electric windows . lol .
I still think forced induction will be the go . Im yet to see a 2 door mk3 in Aus with FI !
Seb it's like power steering - people think it's essential when truly you get better feedback without it. It is a huge effort to go power windows and clearly not worth the effort but I could easily see the lucky new owner of this car forking out for them....such is life.
Matt I'll pick some up at Briges in a month ;-)
Well there are 2 mk3 td's on this forum at at least 2 tdis :nana:
I think i left those steering rods at ur workshop too matt, i cant find em here :duh:
Cool swap not many 2 door VRs in aus.
Made some progress on the beast.

Nice work Matt, is it gonna have working AC and trip computer/cruise etc?
