Hi Guys
I have a 2015 Multivan t5, I need to get some roof racks for it but I'm finding it difficult to find ones that fit.
My van has the metal channel in the roof which looks like a special type of roof rack will fit in.
Does anyone have any knowledge on roof rack numbers / types that will fit these
Rhino make racks that utilise the factory roof channel - all of these models should fit, but only some of the models show them fitted:

You will find there are several bolts in the recess on the roof each side , you can then buy roof rails bolt them in place and that would allow you to place the cross bars at various locations along the track .
these are good suggestions. We also find the Thule Wing Bars work well with either the lower profile 7.2cm feet or 10.5cm feet

Here's a pic of how my Rhino bars sit in the roof channel. I am almost certain my T6 would have the same attaching points as your T5. I think Rhino have a slightly higher load rating (& price...) than other makes.

I’ve recently had installed a Pioneer Roof Platform by Rhino Rack with extra low feet.
I dont have the roof rails just the factory channel and mounting points. The installing company didn’t use any of the factory holes and just made new ones to get the cross bars evenly spaced under the platform.
Where are you located? I have a set of whispbars I don't need. I now have a roof platform.

Yes you are correct - the Captive channel on the T5 & T6 Multivans (standard) and Transporters (optional) is the same.
Transporters may have the Channel optionally, and if they do not, have 4 fixed position fixing points for SWB and 5 fixed position fixing points for the LWB

Ah fair enough. Yeh im tossing up between the flush Whispbar and the Rhinorack Pioneer. I dont really carry much but will eventually want a side awning. Wanting to keep everything looking pretty low and sleek.

If you have the factory mounting channel in the roof you don’t need roof racks to fit an awning - they bolt straight onto the roof channel.Quote:

hey ozgti - that's a 2.5m wide awning? or 2m wide?

I fit in under 2.1 with 245 65 17 on stock 4motion suspension. With the whispbars, I'd be close to 2.1 actual height.

It's actually 2.09m to the top of the eye bolts that are there for attachment purposes. Haven't hit anything yet in a 2.1m carpark.

Cross bars have the u channel on it so you can mount stuff to it. Mine has the u channel down so you can centre it on the car. Annoying....

I have a similar problem, but i need to fit under 2.03m door (said to be 2m). Does anyone know of any racks that would make this possible?

I used the foot that came with the whispbars and got it lower. The foot with the fitting kit is about 2 inches tall. The standard foot is about 2 mm.

I just installed a 2.7m Rhino Pioneer tray on my VW SWB T6 as per Markee's low feet option (RLTPPP). My clearance measurements on stock wheels and suspension is between 1980mm & 1990mm but very happy to still fit under 2m car parks.
I went 4 pairs of legs and the end result is rock solid. There is about 20mm clearance between roof and bars but no flex contact when I walk around up there.
I would post pics but I'm only new here.
Looks like someone should invest in a steep ladder , that roof hasn,t seen any polish for some time in comparison to the sides . Its an age old problem with owning vans they are tall we are short . Happy Easter!Quote:

The Rhino 2528mm x 1586mm 42119BF platform (unassembled) was proposed as a solution for my T6 SWB Multivan, although I'm not keen on the rack width/side overhang.

Thanks for the quick response Wojo. Nice van you have there. You’re right, the rack (2728x1465) is a good fit for the SWB and looks awesome with the low feet mount. The 1586mm width of the Rhino 42119BF would definitely be too wide. Any trouble with wind generated noise from your setup?

The Multivan screwed-down, factory installed track has to be removed and replaced with a Front Runner (t-slot?) style track, which is included with the roof rack kit. The screw holes in the supplied track align with the channel screw holes, but there are less, so some of the channel holes will need a flush mount screw or silicone to seal.
(And of course) It was also pointed out that the Front Runner Slimline II roof racks are very popular with Volkswagen van owners in Europe and that the track/rail swap out is common practice.
