Hey guys,
I am looking to do one of these, I think I have the part number, but just wondering if anyone has done one and if its worth the hassle and money. I believe it should be a direct fit and then some minor coding?
Any input would be much appreciated.
It's definitely been done, at least on the Mk7s where there was no option for it.
Whether you think it's worth the cost and effort, and possible hassles if things don't click right, is probably only something you can decide.
Personally, I'd spend the cash elsewhere on the car (which I know you won't have a problem doing), enjoy the clean analogue dials, and just tick that box next time around. :)
I'm of the same opinion, I don't think I'd bother. I have the active display on my R and it has limited functionality as far as what info it displays at any one time. There is plenty of room to display lots of different things, but VW have limited it to mostly just one thing at a time. Have a look at one in an R and see whether you think it might be worth the effort. If you have any problems in that area you can expect VW to wash their hands of everything, including warranty.
I've installed a few in Golf and Tiguan. Its non-trivial because it requires immobilizer adaptation with ODIS online.
Also needs Discover Pro MIB2 that has optical out for map streaming to the active info display.
All other functions work without the optical cable, but the navigation in the cluster is a pretty major feature.
Agreed on the nav if you run it in the cluster.
I found old habits die hard and left the nav on the central screen and kept my usual dials on the cluster.
I just feel in Hoomy903's case he'd get more out of another power upgrade as he's a bit unstable. :P
Well now that all my body work is done and wheels as well. Springs are the next thing. I have bought them, just waiting for delivery and then install. Then I will look at another turbo back exhaust as my order for Akrapovic was gonna take 2 months from Europe which they didnt tell me when I ordered =(, so I cancelled that order and will go with custom a straight pipe, no res or muffler turbo back =D. Will get the stage 2 tune done after I install exhaust.Quote:

Having moved from a mark 7 to a 7.5, the active info display is super handy with the extra info it provides at once. It's still taking a bit of getting used to, and it is rather limited in its configurability vs. what's available on the new Polo and the new Touareg. It has a slight flicker to it, too, which can cause eye strain in dark conditions. The nav display on the cluster is super handy, but old habits die hard; I still instinctively look over to the infotainment display even when I have the map sitting directly in front of me - but it's super handy to know if I'm about to miss the next street.
I like it now that I have it, but given I've spent time with it, I doubt I'd consider retrofitting this if I didn't already have it as a build option.
Yeah gonna give it a miss, was just wanting to waste money on useless ****. Better things to spend my money on.
I have done it on my car love it all I can say. You require the right radio and a means to do the component protection reprograming. Very expensive option if you don't have the right audio. I upgraded the radio over a year ago to the Discover Pro MIB2 High with DAB so I was covered with this mod. Not a straight out install at all. You can't just swap and go.
