My mk3 ABF project!!

Well yesterday a sexy man with a white van delivered my new engine which will be my project. My aim is to get it up to standard by the nats but only time will tell! Ill let the pics do the speaking.

The plan is to get the thing in and running then hopefully i can get some coilovers from the states and my new wheels will be up and fitted. Also should have new interior and vr6 brakes with cupra disks to keep my stud pattern. Let the good times roll!! :D

whats the Hp on that motor again?

Ohhhhhhh another ABF Mk3 in Oz :D Get rid of the laging and get some HPC coating on those extractors :D

This will be a very nice project... Eventuly u will be running ITB's?

Yeah ceramic coating is about $300 so we will see but noone can see the manifold anyway :). And i dont think ill go itb anymore since it means ill need to run standalone ecu and its not really worth the money at this stage but its sooooo tempting!

Mate i know no one can see but it really does make the difference in heat diserpation on Dad's 16v... Check out the range of VHT exhuast coat bcuz it really is much better :D

Should be 110kw at the motor and by keeping the 020 gearbox Pedro should eliminate lots of the typical 16v lag.

Now get that dash and engine out mate ;)

Ever thought about selling your 5dr and buying a 3dr with the $ and fitting the 16v to one? Take all the good stuff off you have added to your 5dr first and sell it as stock

These engines dont do much under a certain RPM and you need a gearbox with close ratios to keep it up in the revs when changing gears.

Yep spot on, these engines loved to be revved unlike the 8v. Cheers for the support so far, i would love to do a 3 door but i really cant be arsed and they are overpriced for what they are worth. But oneday :D

Yeah a 3 door would be great, I would also like to do it someday but it is a lot of work.

I like the MK4 look lights, what wheels are on your car, do you have any pics of it

They actually have more torque than an 8v from the get go. It just builds well with revs, rather than tailing off :)

Yeah cool I must say... You should be getting 8 sec to 100 or thereabouts I'm guessing, a dam sight faster than the 11 in the 8v!

Ok dash is slowly coming apart and its starting to annoy me now. So many fiddly bits and so many connectors to disconnect, heres a pic for clicks tho. Question, do i have to remove the heater control unit or can i leave it in coz there are cables there and i took a quick look and decided i cbf fiddling with it if i dont have to lol.

Thats the best air con job I've ever seen m8, a bit like a buggy don't you think j:

Nice work mate, looks like you are nearly there.
Leave the heater controls attached to the box and push it behind the dash.
Few bolts up in the scuttle panel in front of the windscreen and you should be able to get the dash out.

Nope, both mine work very well... both just been replaced :D I Love my AC... couldn't live without it in Australia I think.

My trusty haynes manual says i need to remove the steering column is this the case matt? I love working at night it gives me time during the day to work on it!!

Why is the dash coming out, are you doing a heater core ?

If you need to remove the steering column, go for the U bolt down near the pedals. When I was changing the ignition switch, it was much easier to take the column out at that point than taking it out bit by bit (you'd need a puller for that too :()

No need to take off the column mate. You are bringing back loads of memories. I was doing heaps of them back in 95,96 in the UK, they were going on fire due to the dimdip resistor rubbing on the bodywork causing a short. Anyway i wont bore u with that.

The motor came with full loom so im planning to carefully remove mine so some lucky mk1 bugger has an easy transplant like i do :)

Im tempted to do a heater core while im at it tho lol.

Steve bring it around. You may find tho that you'll leave my house with a white 4 stud gl spec car :D. And well, ill just keep ur mk2 gti and never give it back ;)
