Running a RVC to the factory RNS unit.
Paid a bit extra for the camera to be as part of the boot release but it just looks so clean!

Mmm, I don't think any MY10.5 R36s had standard RVCs due to an administrative error at Volkswagen Australia where they de-bundled it from the Sat Nav RNS510 and didn't tell the dealers until it was too late. Hence very few were fitted with the RVC standard - I had lowline RVC retrofitted.

That looks like an OEM style RVC - they replaced the standard tailgate handle with one that incorporates the RVC. It is a neat look.

I did also hear a similar story about why they didn't come out.

Bit of a shame really considering it has everything else.

Either way i'm happy with this aftermarket camera, neat way to do it and still displays on the factory RNS in arguably better quality than any OEM camera i've seen.

Bit of work wiring up the RCA camera to the factory RNS510 unit using a triggered relay for powering the camera and the converter box to go from RCA to the factory multi pin plug.
RCA cameras allow for a higher quality image over the factory cameras and a wider angle, again without sacrificing the quality.

process of elimination found a found a fault with the supplied loom. independent RCA cable fixed the problem.

4GX WIFI dongle installed ready for the Blackvue cloud camera to go in on Wednesday.

Just takes data from my 38GB/month phone plan at no additional cost so that's pretty good seeing as i don't use anywhere near that anyway.

With the camera wired in to the PMP and the dongle with a battery life of 4 days i should be pretty safe [emoji1362]

Keeping to the stock look i upgraded the number plate lights, puddle lights, front parker lights and footwell lights in the 36.
Having it still look stock whilst getting rid of the yellow glow from the various halogen bulbs really cleaned it up nicely imo.

Did you have to do any VCDS coding or what is a straight plug and play swap?

you have to swap two of the pins on the harness around otherwise the climate will not save your settings (will reset to AC on and 20 degrees whenever you restart the car)
I can live with that for a week until i get around to cutting my harness apart [emoji23]

only coding i will need is i want the staging turned on (not required just a cool little bonus)

Forgive my ignorance, for a fellow Candy White R36 wagon owner :) , can you explain what this new panel is and does?

well overall: not a lot

but if you break it down.

1. It looks better / more modern (because it is)
2. Allows for a few more functions (MAX AC / MAX Defrost)
3. Push button for seat heaters - so if passenger gets out without turning it off it doesn't stay of for days like mine used to.
4. Now gives me screen prompts on the RNS510 (ass seen in picture above) where i never had it before.

Bluetooth Upgrade Time!

Long overdue upgrade to the dealer fitter NOKIA bluetooth kit in the 36.

Removing the old module was a pain in the ass seeing as it was behind the head unit (tucked up under the dash) rather than the factory fitted under the seat option. This kit was a straight swap and because it's a 9zz kit, I keep all functions and all steering wheel buttons (even the phone button that almost always goes with a standard 9w7 kit)

NOKIA kit gave me:
- Stereo bluetooth streaming (head unit only said "BT-Audio") and i had no controls through head unit or MFD.
- Phone button worked on the steering wheel to answer/decline calls.
- No details shown on the RNS510 in regards to calls.
- PHONE button on head unit acted as a MUTE button due to lack of Premium BT module.


Premium Kit gives me:
- PHONE screen/options on MFD display.
- PHONE screen/phonebook/prompts on RNS510 head unit.
- Full control over music through head unit and MFD (skipping tracks/volume etc).
- Full music details on MFD and RNS510 (track/artist/album/track duration etc.)
- Bluetooth music automatically starts on vehicle start-up.
